scream @ sunway / nokia nuffnang halloween party

On Friday night, a bunch of us went to the SCREAM Halloween party @ Sunway Lagoon Theme Park. Was running a bit late because I had the book launch thingy and KY had something on as well. So sorry Caryn for making you wait for us.

It was a long walk to the party though. Had to walk past the mini zoo, which means taking in both good things and bad things. The good:

Beautiful view of the Sunway hotel

The bad: Animals stink. Go figure.

There were lots of SCREAM actors (a.k.a. people wearing costume and make-up pretending to be your worst nightmare walking around trying to take you by surprise so they could frighten you half to death), quite a number of people dancing too. The only problem was that the crowd was a bit too scattered because it was a large venue. Also, S.a.D. took the stage at 11+ pm; I didn’t think it was a good decision, heh. It was funny looking at them in their costumes, though…

The only dude whom I thought was quite convincing was a zombie slouching around with a maniac grin. Xaviera had paint on her face and drawings of cobwebs on her arms. No idea what that was :P Two Chinese vampires were there, the female eventually won Best Costume.

Saturday evening was the Nokia Nuffnang Halloween Party at the Borneo Baruk Club in KL. I got there early because someone told me that he was going early. Turns out I was one of the earliest. Luckily Serge was there early as well, so got kawan to borak a bit.

Then people started to arrive, and it was fun looking at all the costumes there. My favourite was the milk carton who danced the night away! Another favourite was KlubbKid, dressed as Kurt Cobain with gunshot wound and all.

Come… as you are….

Sorry if I seemed a bit anti-social. (1) I memang am a bit anti-social, heh; and (2) I was mostly hanging out with Elfie, Michael and LucyLiu upstairs, pre-occupied with the beer that David Lian got us.

Can everyone say, “I LOVE DAVID LIAN!!”…

The first band was quite good, but like someone said, the songs sound almost the same? The rapping duo was good also, rather funny. I know there’s a third band because I heard them rehearsing earlier. Didn’t catch their performance but they sounded good in the rehearsals.

Would have loved to stay longer, but Michael, Elfie and I had to go to Zouk for another party. By the way, the black feathers you see around the club belong to Kim.

we had fun @ euphoria by ministry of sound!

Last Wednesday and Thursday, in FA’s words, we were lucky to attend the preview of Euphoria by Ministry of Sound. I didn’t even know they opened a MOS in Malaysia. That shows you how little I know, or care.

But it was fun and I’m really glad I went because it has been a while since I’ve thoroughly enjoyed myself at a club. Maybe it was because of the pre-launch thingy, where there weren’t so many people and the management was trying to impress. When you are the beneficiary of such generosity, you do not voice a word of complain :D

On Wednesday we got there rather early, at about 9 p.m. Was worth it because after touring the entire place (upstairs and downstairs and basement) we managed to get a great table underneath the stairs, next to the DJ booth, overlooking the dance floor. It’s the most awesome spot, I tell you. So if you are someone important or glamorous or just damn lucky to get your pick of tables, take that one.

Beer, cocktails and red/white wines were free-flow (until about 11 something pm) and there was plenty to munch on, so you can imagine our happiness level. Waiter was also very friendly, dumping a whole load of beer on our table. Rather good ventilation too, as you can only smoke in designated smoking areas, which resemble those available at airports. At The Deq (which is something like a lounge, more well-lit equipped with comfy sofas), there is an open deck so that’s nice.

Think this dude’s from Miami, USA and boy was he good!

If the two nights that we were there were anything to go by, you can be sure the music will be smooth, groovy, dance-able, chill-able, get you up and dancing, dazzle your imagination, etc. Okay, except for any R&B shit. Call me biased, prejudiced, judgmental, snob, in possession of little or no taste, whatever — but there is a time limit on how long one can dance to R&B without getting bored and/or looking for something else to move on to. Like, 15 minutes. See, this doesn’t happen when it comes to house/ trance! Anyone who disagrees does not deserve to party at Euphoria :D

Halloween came early

Being the pre-pre-launch, there was of course entertainment in form of chicks and dudes on stilts and the compulsory sexy dancers in skimpy clothing. Besides the one in the photo above, there was a dude which we dubbed ‘lobster man’ because… he looked like a lobster? There were a couple of chicks prancing about on stilts; if I wore a hat, I’d take it off to them.

A couple of chicks were almost stripper-dancing on stage. The one on my left was really good; she was slightly more voluptuous than the on my right and her timing to the music was always spot on.

The following night, we were there again, only this time with more people. Played around with QIK (which I am getting bored with) and this is Kim and ST as we waited for people… *click here for the video*

There are a couple more videos I took at The Deq but you’ll have to go look for them. iMalas to copy paste bla bla.

This time round we hung out at The Deq instead of the main room. Got ourselves a nice corner with a sofa and pillows. Definitely more people than the night before, met Dawn Jeremiah for the first time (VERY friendly and gregarious not to mention hot) and well, it was fun.

Wah, 2 nights out in a row! I must be getting younger :P

Btw Euphoria by MOS is next to the Sunway Lagoon Resort. I guess you can just park your car at the hotel’s basement car park. If I am not mistaken, they officially open for business tonight. Apparently you need to be 21 years old and above to enter the club, so sorry Rachel :D

the borneo rainforest cafe @ sunway

Lots more photos than words these days, kan? Here’s another one…

Last Friday we were invited by to the official launch of The Borneo Rainforest Café at Sunway. Actually Sultan Muzaffar was the invited one, and he was given some slots for additional bloggers, and he invited us. So nice and generous :D

Borneo Rainforest Restaurant

The Borneo Rainforest Café is the brainchild of Datin Seri Tiara Jacqueline. According to some news clippings that were displayed there, apparently it’s a collaboration with David Teo, but now I can’t seem to locate any references to it. The restaurant/ cafe is located directly opposite the Sunway Sunway Hotel & Spa along Persiaraan Lagoon, just in front of an open space parking lot.

The place was rather easy to find, and the decor was mostly wood and trees and other greens… Tables were set al fresco-style. There were soft toys in the shape of beruks hugging the wooden pillars. Quite cute.

Me and KY were among the first to arrive. After signing in, we saw Asyraf and Stephanie, and chatted with them for a bit. The boys were talking about their massive equipment (i.e. cameras) while I tahan lapar by sipping drinks.

Sultan Muzaffar arrived not long later, so camwhore a bit first…

After a while, TV Smith and Leen arrived. But the VIPs had not, so we couldn’t touch the food :( The aroma of whatever was cooking was tormenting me for one full hour…

Took a photo of the BBQ seafood before they were walloped by hungry guests

A few minutes after 9 p.m., the guests of honour, or rather the owners arrived at the scene to much paparazzi shots…

At that time I was one footstep away from dying of hunger, so I did not join the peps up front for the official launch. Apparently there were fireworks, traditional dances, speeches… which I am sure is all very good…

Finally we could eat, yay! It was buffet style, so being Malaysians, you know lah… The menu was mostly Malaysian with food like nasi dagang, nasi kerabu, otak otak, char kuey teow, nasi lemak, mee hailam, umai, laksa Sarawak… Some not-so-Malaysian stuff are available as well, such as grilled crab, lamb chops, baked cheesy oysters, this and that pasta…

TV Smith got Tiara Jacquelina to our table for a mini interview. She was nice, warm and enthusiastic. According to her, there would be 8 stalls selling over 100 types of food. She had a big hand in deciding the menu, mostly stuff that she loves to eat. Patrons would order from the menu and receive 5-star service. Undoubtedly the service was rather good on the evening of the launch. If they could maintain the level of service that we received, I am sure they would have returning customers.

Camwhores!

I recognised some local celebrities, though Sultan Muzaffar could name them all. Impressive…

Borneo Rainforest - Tiara Jacqueline, Siti Nurhaliza, Datuk K
Tiara Jacqueline, Siti Nurhaliza and husband Datuk K and son, and… sorry no idea

I also camwhored with Sofea Jane… she was rather nice and funny, and I’ve always enjoyed her movies. “Superstar? No lah now I Supermom.”

Me: Wait! I got skinny angle (which didn’t turn out to be so skinny after all)
SF: Skinny angle ar?! I also got.. come come!

Had a photo taken with Tiara Jacquelina, but TV Smith notchet send the pix over… Oh well.

Since I’m such a massive camwhore, here’s me with Siti Nurhaliza! Yeay!

So hot in real life… not me of course ;)

If you are around the area, can go there santap lah. The Borneo Rainforest Cafe opens only for dinner, prices start from RM5. Have fun.
