actorlympics @ bangsar actors studio, kl

This isn’t exactly a review, but then I’m out of categories.

By the way I would like to congratulate Streamyx for infiltrating my patience limit. And for the 10,000 times I’ve called the help desk to unsuccessfully find out why my Internet connection isn’t working. Sometimes I wonder what the hell I am paying for.

Anyway, Fireangel and I joined Albert, Silencers, Cheneille and a bunch of their friends yesterday for Actorlympics at the Bangsar Actors Studio.

Actorlympics

It was my first Actorlympics show, I didn’t know what to expect and pleasantly found myself laughing like kok throughout the show.

Edwin Sumun, Suanie

If you’d seen ‘Whose Line Is It Anyway?’ you’d know what this show is about. Hence Actor Acting+Olympics = Actorlympics, geddit? Heh… :P

Suanie, Afdlin Shauki, Fireangel

Yesterday’s line up was : Edwin Sumun, Afdlin Shauki, Ida Nerina, Fish, Reza Zainal Abidin, Na’a Murad and Douglas Lim.

Fireangel, Fish, Douglas Lim, Ida Nerina, Na'a

It struck me that Malaysians are fond of talking about two things: public toilets and Samy Vellu. Well, what the audience wants, the audience gets. That’s the whole gist of the show anyway.

Fireangel, Reza, Cheneille

All in all, it was really fun, a very good relaxing night out. This round’s Actorlympics final show is on February 26th (Sat) at 8.30 p.m, so go catch it if you have a chance. It’s at The Actors Studio at Bangsar Shopping Centre, prices are RM 47, RM42 and RM 22 for students and senior citizens.

Suanie, Fireangel, Afdlin Shauki, Edwin Sumun

By the way, Edwin Sumun wants us to pimp his blog. For the hillarious host of the show who wears a tiara and loves Thai… erm people, ANYTHING!

You are le original diva.

the all-in-one post

Food, movies, people, haircut… rather long post with 21 photos. You have been warned.

straight out of klia, babeh

As a teen I semi-worshipped Fly Guy of the Lil’ Kev & Fly Guy Hitz fm morning show. He was smart, witty and ever so sarcastic even especially at the crack of dawn. I listened to their show a lot and faithfully bought a magazine (whose name I forgot now) every month because they gave Fly Guy a column. I wrote to him at that mag asking him how to be a radio DJ (one of my now-never-to-be-fulfilled childhood dreams, if you’d talked to me before you’d understand why) and he actually answered my letter the following month in his column… BOY CAN YOU IMAGINE MY EXCITEMENT AT THAT TIME!!!

Then I called him one early morning when he was hosting the show alone, he remembered my name, we chatted for a bit (more like he layaned me a bit) and that was that. When he and Lil’ Kev left Hitz FM, I was quite devastated. Not many DJs in Malaysia could match his singular style, though I did ‘discover’ Jeevan (Red 104.9 fm, 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm ) much later but that’s another story.

But Fly Guy is BACK! YAY the JOY, the DELIGHT, the BLESSINGS, the GLADNESS… yes I know how to use the thesaurus.

FLYfm broadcasts live from KLIA 24 hours a day (95.8 in Klang Valley) and Fly Guy is on from 6 am to 10 am, just like his old slot back at Hitz.

REJOICE Y’ALL!

And here’s a crappy MS Paint thingamajig as an almost-final tribute to my long time adoration for the satu dan satu sahaja Fly Guy.

suanie loves flyguy

I love you long time!!!

If you miss your daily PPS fix, here’s something that could hopefully take away the pain : Ill Will Press, home of neurotically yours. With a good connection (all flash) and your speakers up, you’re good to go. For now.

afdlin shauki’s fuuyo takes home the cake

me and CD I asked for a CD of Fuuyo by Afdlin Shauki some time last week and it arrived yesterday.

I have not seen much of Afdlin Shauki’s works let alone know what he sounds like. Besides the last album by a Malay singer I bought was Siti Nurhaliza’s debut album. Yeah that was a mighty long time ago. And the recent development of Malaysia’s love for reality shows that produce not-so-commendable (in my opinion) singers are… high school efforts at best. Except for Jac, most of them do not reach graduate levels, no matter what POPULAR OPINION says. If you want to know more about the lameness of popular opinion, feel free to watch Malaysian Idol S2. That should give you some idea on why quality SHOULD preceed popularity because the aftermath can be scary.

afdlin shauki lost his mind

Afdlin Shauki You know Afdlin Shauki, right?

Not only this local entertainer has a blog, he actually writes pretty decent stuff; now how many bloggers can say that about themselves? (ahem)

Anyway he launched a mini campaign against XXX distributing record company to basically prove to them that they were wrong in their judgment. Such a bold move, Suanie feels should lauded and awarded its well-deserved attention.

Plus the man is mad and if the whole deal tak jadi, he’s going to pretty much end up a pauper. What noble sacrifice for a man’s art, no?

You can read the background story here.

In a nutshell, Afdlin is offering to send you his album Fuuyo for your listening pleasure. The CD retails for RM35 and the cassette RM16.90, but here’s the thing:

If you feel that the album is worth RM35, then you pay him RM35. If you feel that the album is worth RM25, then you pay him RM25. Or RM10. Or RM0.10. It’s up to you, O listeners to judge and the verdict is all yours to make.

If you feel that the album is worth nothing, all Afdlin asks is that you destroy your copy and NOT pass it to someone else.

Tell me, where in Malaysia can you find such good a deal eh? Hehehe..

But since the man is so honest, we shall be honest too, yah? If you are truly interested in listening to Afdlin’s album Fuuyo, then shoot him an e-mail at [selambakodok-at-gmail-dot-com] with the subject “AFDLIN DAH HILANG AKAL!”. Let him know if you want the CD or the cassette.

You can pay him using bank money transfer, money order, T.T. or bank draft to a name and address that would be inserted in the album.

Comprehensive details here, given to you in his own passionate voice.

More power to mad celebrities!!!
