Boycott the Lorong Selamat char kuey teow auntie, yeay! Only when I’m not in Penang lah…

I was rolling about in laughter as I read Eleen’s forwarded e-mail about a call to boycott the famous Lorong Selamat char kuey teow lady seller. You know, the one that Penang folks dislike as she is notoriously rude and unfriendly. All the bad service at a premium price for her char kuey teow, ohhh trust me, I feel their disgust every time I propose lunch at said hawker stall 😛

Apparently some customers witnessed an unpleasant incident which you can read in detail at The Star report here. Someone then drew up a caricature and it went its rounds and finally arrived at my Inbox courtesy of Eleen, who knows how much I adore the stall’s char kuey teow.

Yeah, very rude I agree. Actually don’t talk about that incident lah. Before she moved to her own corner shop lot, she was renting a stall at the middle part of Lorong Selamat. Also very rude what. Remember when customers had to line up for their own plate of char kuey teow because she was too busy and she was short-handed and refused to serve? Or the 3 hours of waiting for your food because of the simple equation of her cooking each plate individually and there were just way too many orders? Or the many alleged incidents of “cannot wait then don’t eat lah” or “too expensive don’t eat lah” uttered from her red beret, goggles-wearing down turned mouth?

Yes I know all the stories. It’s terrible, I admit. But I don’t go to Penang often. When I get the chance to, I only want to eat her char kuey teow. You can’t tell me that there are other nicer char kuey teow around. I tried all the others and they don’t compare to this one:

Sorry I tourist. Tell me if you want me to help boycott other things and I will! Just not this one 😀

The day KY and I nearly died side by side

Sometime last week I had lunch with KY in town. We then walked back towards KLCC — him back to work and me back to where my car was parked. As we crossed the final main road to get to KLCC, suddenly there were lots of motorbike honking. We turned our heads to our left in horror … 10,000 motorbikes were headed towards us!!!

… okay, it was not 10,000 motorbikes but it sure felt like it! What happened was, I guess both of us blanked/ zoned out and didn’t realise that the traffic light had turned green. So you can imagine both our horrors as we were momentarily stunned there and could not move an inch as the honking motorbikes came nearer and nearer…

I looked at KY, KY looked at me and suddenly we both just RAN for our lives! The photo below is an almost accurate presentation of what transpired…

Suanie & KY & lots of bikes

Scary. Had the ‘life flashed before my eyes’ moment. We could not speak about it for a while. Could not stop laughing because we were rather shaken. Human reactions can be odd.

I need new jeans and pants because…

… my old ones don’t fit me any more!

I know I shouldn’t be complaining, but in a way it really does suck because I spent way too much money invested heavily in jeans and pants. I got most of my stash from Marks & Spencers because it was the only place I could get decent looking bottoms in larger sizes. They didn’t come cheap.

So now I have a wardrobe full of clothes that are too big for me and none the budget to fix it. Oh well guess I’ll have to stick it out for a while.

I’d already thrown out my larger jeans before my sister told me that there’s a place somewhere in KL that could alter your jeans to a couple sizes down. Thank goodness she told me that before I donated everything away.

I’ve more left, so last night I asked Carol to help me take some photos.

Suanie in light blue jeans

I forgot where I bought this one. Quite some time ago, I imagine because I could not wear them for a while (gained too much weight). It was only recently when I lost some weight that I could wear them again. But now they are way too loose for me and can only be worn in public if held together with a belt.

Suanie in dark blue jeans

Ahh, a UK size 16 Dorothy Perkins straight cut jeans. Used to be my version of skinny jeans, used to fit me snugly… okay a bit too tight. I got them after I went down one size from working out. I can’t wear them out now without a belt and people thinking I have no arse because of the excess cloth around my bum and legs.

Suanie in cargo pants

Pants from British India, size 13! Used to fit nicely at my waist, now it just drops down to my ankles. I don’t know what to do with this one, I hope I can get it properly altered because the material is quite good and comfortable.

Suanie in shorts

I bought this pair of shorts in 2008 for the Nokia N82 Wireless Adventure II. Back then it was a *little* bit too tight for me and would… you know, ride up.

Now it looks like a skirt.

my dad is a prop

Ryan the Nephew with his grandfather
Ryan and his grandfather

My Dad has always been the strong, silent type. Man of few words, looks infinitely grumpy, the complete opposite of my Mom. I don’t talk about him a lot because he is just there… you know. In fact, more than a couple of people have asked if my parents were still married because I hardly talk about my Dad, whereas I have many stories about my Mom. Or if my Dad is still alive. Very much so.

As you can see from the collage above, this is a typical scene of Dad hanging out. Almost single position, perhaps moving his arms a little to the left or right after half an hour or so. I told Ryan the Nephew to pose for a few photos with his grandfather. He did and I found the whole situation so endearing that I had to share. It’s so my Dad 🙂

tooth tales

Note: A collage below may be gross to some. You have been warned.

A few moons ago, I was advised to crown one of my molars. To cut the story short, the nerves of the molar where it was crowned got infected recently. Unfortunately the infection was not able to come out by itself (so to speak) because of the crown.

An x-ray of the molar was taken and it was decided by Dentist A that a root canal must be performed. As my molar was crowned by Dentist B, I had to make an appointment with Dentist B for the root canal.

So I did. When I met Dentist B this morning, she told me that she’d looked at my x-ray and thought that a root canal would only have a 50/50 chance of success rate. Something about this molar having 3 roots which makes it difficult etc etc, the problem was somewhere else etc etc. I understand what the problem is, I just don’t feel like elaborating here. I’m sure some of you will appreciate that 😉

My dentist suggested that I have a bridge performed instead. Basically she would extract my molar, then wait for 2 months for the gums to heal then place a crown where the missing tooth will be. I asked damn a lot of questions and told her I’d think about it and get back to her.

I got into my car, drove around the area for 5 minutes and went back to my dentist for her to extract my molar.

She jabbed me 4 times with local anesthetic and wanked out my molar. It was done in less than 5 minutes. This photos was taken right after my molar came out.

Suanie after tooth extraction

See, so happy, thinking it was a piece of cake… obviously still under the effect of the anesthetic lah.

Then the anesthetic started to wear off…

So yeah, I pretty much want to kill the world right now. But thought I’d channel my pain to blogging instead, seeing how I’ve somewhat neglected my blog 😛

Here are some pretty photos of my molar! You see the bitch has a third leg that curves one side and is extra pointy? That motherfucker is the reason why a root canal would only have a 50/50 chance of success. The red bits sticking to the molar are bits of my gums, I think. Sorry, I tried cleaning it as much as I could. The whiter part on top is the RM500 crown, the silver lining is the cement that… uh, cements. Heh.

Suanie's extracted tooth

Feels pretty weird to have a missing tooth. It stopped bleeding lots but I can still taste blood. It’s okay, I’m not squirmish. Gums are painful though but I reckon it’s pretty normal, considering that my molar was so unceremoniously yanked out. Got a ringing in my right ear. Got a massive headache. Got lots of ibuprofen which will probably work better tomorrow. Quite hungry but not in the mood to eat anything. Sister’s maid cooked soup, I suppose that’s my dinner. Had to lock door to my room as Ryan was asking too many questions, expecting lots of answers even though I’ve told him that I’m in pain and cannot speak much. He’s howling outside now as I type.

Oh well.

obc: s08: one of the circuit sessions

Oh boy… Last week I skipped all of my Original BootCamp Malaysia sessions because I was lazy for reasons I shall not go into here. Almost forgot how fun, intense, difficult yet satisfying it can be until this morning when I managed to drag my sorry, lazy arse out to Astaka field.

After our warm up, Sergeant Sim gave us 10 grunts for a couple of late comers and another 10 for not counting the first 10 out loud. Then he led us to the circuit where we’d be doing our exercises that morning. Since blog posts with too many words and no images can be zzz, I have in my unselfishness drawn out a fantastic portrayal of this morning’s circuit.

Original BootCamp Malaysia - circuit session

In general, 6 recruits per stretch of cone. From the cones in the middle on top, you run to the 1st station focusing on cardio and lower body workout. After 30 seconds, bear crawl (1st set) / run (2nd and 3rd sets) to the next station where you workout with sandbags. 3rd station was upper arm/ body workout. Last station was a massive rope where all 6 recruits hold on to the rope and workout. Then run to the opposite direction where the exercises were the same, a mirror image. Each set lasts for 10 minutes.

First set:
1st station: Mountain climbers
2nd station: Deep squats with sandbag
3rd station: Military push-ups
4th station: Squats with rope

Second set:
1st station: Cross country
2nd station: Arm lift with sandbag
3rd station: King Kong push-ups
4th station: Thrusters with rope

Third set:
1st station: Frog jumps
2nd station: Get ups with sandbag
3rd station: Diamond push-ups
4th station: Jack knives with rope

Then a short jog before warming down. KennyBaby(TM) reckons it was about 400m, I’m not sure.

Felt great, I feel almost back into the groove now, though my arms are really sore at the moment. Oh well it’s all good. OBC Bring A Friend Day is this Saturday, 20 March 2010. My session is from 7-8am at Padang Astaka, PJ (near Cobra club). Anyone interested? Let me know, I’ll tell you how to sign up!
