The story about the Pos Malaysia parcel that never arrived

A colleague ordered something to be shipped from Singapore. For that extra bit of safety and security, he made it a registered post.

The item was ordered on 13th August. By all standards, it would take a few days to reach Kuala Lumpur. So he waited.

… and waited, and waited, and waited…

17 days later, he finally called Pos Malaysia to try and find out where the heck was his parcel.

Apparently it arrived at the nearest post office on the 18th August. This is where it turns classic.

The postman for the area had resigned. So there was no one to deliver mail. That was why his parcel was sitting quietly in the post office, waiting for its owner to make the first move to claim it.

  1. very typical of a Malaysian ‘public service’ excuse isn’t it?

I had waited for several parcels to arrive before and when I ‘finally’ received it. Customs actually had it like a month before they ‘decide’ to mail it to me. How I know this? Date received (by customs) stamped on my parcel documents. -__-

  2. This is the reason why I didn’t do much online shopping in when I was in KL, totally no faith in the postal service.

I’m been buying stuff online from overseas quite a lot since I’ve moved to HK!

    • I don’t dare to buy things on-line also. Been there, done that (goods never arrived though shipped.. ). Would you be interested to help me buy something from Amazon US 😛

  3. I can’t imagine life without online shopping now! Always such worrisome experience when I post stuff to my mum in KL, she’d be calling Pos Malaysia on daily basis after confirmation of arrival in destination country on Royal Mail website until the package arrives.

  4. My third attempt at sending something to Malaysia finally succeeded recently.

It took 2 days to reach KL (from the UK) and then another 4 weeks to be delivered to the destination address.

  5. By cheating with all sort of excuses by not deliver to the door step, the GLC cum SMAB golden goose selectively choose package so it can cut the gas cost. In certain extend , they can extort tax free goods for “custom clearance fees” , a sum of RM50. Again, you must collect the item yourself.
