What’s a city kid to do in the city during weekends and school holidays? Go to Farm in the City!
Farm in the City is a village-themed petting zoo in Seri Kembangan, about 20 minutes drive from Kuala Lumpur (30 minutes from Petaling Jaya). The open concept allows visitors to get up close and personal with animals, plants and sunshine. It might be a shock for kids these days to see animals in person and not on TV or computer screen, let alone feed and touch them.
But that is what Farm in the City is about, getting kids (and adults) acquainted with nature. No cages, except for the potentially dangerous ones like snakes. I spoke to one of the owners, he told me that some kids had never seen a real, live chicken before. I can’t think what they must have felt when roosters and hen roamed the cafe freely, unafraid of human beings.
I took the kids there one weekend and they had such a blast! We skipped the fruits and vegetable farm but it still took us about 2 hours to go around the park. Besides being able to feed and pet some animals, there are special feeding sessions for toucans, foxes and pelicans. There’s also a pony ride, RM7 per kid.
As it’s an open-air concept, you’ll need to be prepared for the weather. Hats, umbrellas, sun screen, water and so on. Normal entrance fee is RM48/adult and RM38/child below 12 years old. Malaysians with MYKad pays only RM30/adult and RM25/child. Senior citizens above 60 years old get child rate. Children below 90cm enter for free.
