The Mighty East Coast Trip! The road to Merang, Terengganu

From Sungai Lembing, we headed towards Cherating. It was the beginning of our coastal road journey!

It was the period of GE speculations so you could see flags for all political parties flying loud and proud.

Cherating being a beach town is dotted with roadside shops selling swimwear, floatation devices etc:

We turned into the road leading to Ruby’s Resort and Club Med Cherating. It was a lovely day to be feeling the warm, sticky sea breeze on our faces. Was probably too confident (and stupid) in parking Daisy (my sister’s car) near the beach. So it kind of got stuck in the sand. 10 minutes of panic. At one point I was almost hyperventilating.

Finally a guard at Club Med helped us to get the car out from the sand, phew! Here’s the aftermath:

Next to Club Med Cherating is a turtle sanctuary. Interesting only if you haven’t seen live turtles before. I’m in two minds over the conservation part, they didn’t look very conserving to me.

Spot the dead baby turtle:

It was a largely long and uneventful drive to Kerteh, where we passed by the petroleum refinery.

Then onwards on beautiful roads like this:

Randomly stopped by at Pantai Kemasik, possibly my favourite pit stop for it was just gorgeous! Soft sand, strong breeze and waves, blue sea.

Stopped by a roadside stall for food, positively famished at this point. Can’t tell you which exact stall was this, they had seriously delicious lekor and fried squid. Inexpensive too.

Random photo of a lonely sheltered boat looking out at sea.

Somewhere near Kuala Terengganu, you could offload your used TVs and other electrical goods here. Nobody seems to mind.

  4. Miss the long drive to Merang >.< Hehehe

I kinda doubted the Turtle Sanctuary too after they allowed us to release some baby turtles at 5pm. Apparently that is not the correct time to do so…
