The Mighty East Coast Trip! The beginning…

As a female, I tend to exaggerate or shift things to our perspective (read: advantage).

But I wasn’t kidding about the ‘mighty’ part.

I’d been wanting to go on a road trip to Malaysia’s beautiful East Coast for the longest time. It would have been a 8 or 9 day trip, no less for us to explore the charms of the other side of the Titiwangsa Range. Unfortunately this kind of fun requires time off from work, a luxury we didn’t have. So in line with my new life motto, we do what we can.

Mighty East Coast Trip - road to Pahang
This is why I love driving up North and to East Coast, therapeutic!

We were to stay at The Royale Aryani for a much anticipated holiday. I had an extra day off and wondered where we could go before heading to the East Coast. Somewhere.. adventurous?

Balak o balak…

Then Joyce managed to convince me that waking up early to walk up a hill to see the sun rise in Sungai Lembing would be a brilliant idea. Miraculously I agreed. I still think she sneaked that in somehow…

Wikipedia says that Sungai Lembing is a tin mining town 42 km northwest of Kuantan in Pahang. So we drove towards Bentong onto Karak Highway. Or something like that. Just had to get to Kuantan lah. Reliant on road signs all the way!

Somewhere in Pahang, there was a road sign to Tasik Chini jetty. Wooo marvelous, we’d never seen (a) Tasik Chini jetty before! So we detoured for nearly an hour looking for the jetty. And came across a lovely lotus pond with a pavilion that seemed out of place in the small village.

Random tourist spot, anyone?

Found the jetty. Go us! Oh it isn’t *really* THE Tasik Chini jetty. Now what?

Mighty East Coast Trip - Kg Belimbing jetty
Probably happening about last century

Turned around and saw that the Kampung Belimbing folks are probably enjoying better Internet access than most of you lot.

Satu lagi projek…

A fork in the old roads finally led us to…

Mighty East Coast Trip - road signs to Sg Lembing
Outside of KL, road signs are meant to be followed

The road towards Sungai Lembing was a very pleasant drive. Palm trees lined both sides of the road with a mountain view ahead.

Mighty East Coast Trip - Gua Charas
This is probably Gua Charas, another tourist destination

We could feel that we were driving up a hill. The air felt different too, fresher.

Oh thank you thank you

Our room reservation got borked at the last minute but the owner asked her friend to accommodate us. We were led to the heart of Sungai Lembing town to the Country View Inn, opposite the market. As we were (initially) the only guests there and she was doing her friend a favour, she let us have a bigger room for 4 for RM60 a night. Yay!

With air-cond, Wi-Fi, hot shower, privacy, believe me.. it’s a bargain!

Dinner beckoned, off we went to the recommended Restaurant Hoover nearby for:

Didn’t taste as good as it may look..

Filling but nothing to shout about. So we didn’t. Slept early as we had a hill to walk up the next morning..!

Perfect timing for a Jack & Jill joke, but nah… I’ve kids reading this blog 😉 Oh, hi Mom.
