I had my first Hoegaarden in Singapore many (many many many) years ago. Boy was it different from anything I’ve had! So refreshing and delicious, so out of this world! It remained my favourite beer for a long time. These days Hoegaarden is not a rare commodity but back then the only place that served it in draught form was Carnegies at Central Plaza, now the Qatar Airways KL office. Needless to say, I spent a lot of time there. Those were the days…
Then I grew older (who would have guessed?) and my palate changed. I outgrew Hoegaarden, explored and moved on to other things. Went back a couple of times but could never get the same taste and feel of how it used to be. Says a lot about a lot of things
Anyway I had a taste of Kronenbourg Blanc recently and I think I found my Hoegaarden replacement!
Kronenbourg Blanc only came to Malaysia a few months ago, brought in by the Carlsberg/Luen Heng guys. It comes in bottle form, only available in selected pubs for now but the distributor have big plans for it. I was told that they’re making it available in draught here as early as next year.
If you had Hoegaarden before, you’d have a basic idea of what the Kronenbourg Blanc is like. Just imagine it to be a crispier, more citrusy (but not overpoweringly so) and more fragrant version. This is a very easy beer to drink, tastes of fruits and summer. You should try it out if you can. Not yet available in supermarkets so you’ve to get it at Carlsberg-associated pubs, e.g. Library and Movida.
I have 2 bottles chilling in my fridge. Don’t jealous
