Traffic lights to replace Rothman’s roundabout in SS2
Did you know that the landmark Rothman’s roundabout in SS2 will soon have traffic lights? I didn’t, until I saw these signs posted all over the roundabout.
In short, it announces of the traffic light plans and work will commence in July 2010. If you have any questions, you can call the Engineering Dept at 03-79584221. The Mayor also apologises for any inconvenience caused to you throughout the duration of this project.
According to a report on KomunitiKini, this project will take 8 months to complete. From what I understand, the roundabout will be removed and turned into a crossroads connecting Jalan Universiti, Jalan Harapan, Jalan Semangat and Jalan 19/1 with traffic lights. So, no more selfish drivers not allowing you to take your exit? Yay!
Why am I blogging about this? Not sure. It was after all the first roundabout I was acquainted with when I first moved to Klang Valley, being the landmark that it is. I think the project will greatly ease the circus of a traffic jam situation at the area… if done brilliantly of course. But I’m just sentimental about silly things like memories.

Rothman’s traffic light it shall be then!
I hope they can speed things up to say, 8 weeks instead of 8 months.
The funny thing is they had the same notice at the Jalan Gasing roundabout couple of years back… but it’s still a roundabout today… so wonder how that’ll work at the Rothman’s one..
There goes the landmark that I use to show my friends where I live
. Gonna miss the roundabout.
KY: There’s not even Rothman’s anymore
Jason: Knowing them, might be 18 months, ouch , CHOI!!!
Jojo: Interesting to see, as the ins and outs are a bit complicated with so many turnings!
Daniel: Nostalgic eh? But it def has to be improved though!
Craps, with the construction going on, the traffic is probably gonna get really bad and they definitely can’t drag it to 18 months.
Cross fingers.
Still two more over at Jalan Templer..
Eventually, Malaysians will lose the ability to negotiate roundabouts when they are all gone. Then we will be like Americans, who apparently freak out when they have to drive in countries where they still exist. Well, at least that’s a stereotype I’ve heard often enough..
Sigh… roundabouts are such beautiful things…
oh no…!!!!!.. that’s my childhood roundabout!!
it’s like the roundabout in SS3 or SS4?… after going pass taman sea secondary school coming from seapark and instead of turning right to taman megah, you turn left… that roundabout got demolished too right?!
You can always come to the Bulatan Pahang / Pahang Rounabout. This 1 is as good as Rothmans but slightly bigger
btw, on weekends its the official race track for mat rempit.
you can drop by around 2am to 4am to watch this scene.
place to be, Jalan Pahang McDonald’s
Although my office is at Jaya 33 and I don’t really use the roundabout but I can see that the traffic there is crazy so the traffic light would be good!
Yah hope they build an overpass there too and fix the flooding.
Hope with the traffic, the roads will be smoother..
it’s probably gonna help ease things, but gonna miss it anyway. calling it rothman’s cross roads just don’t quite sound right.
how abt Rothman’s light ?
no more Rothman corner dy in this case. but it will be all good for the traffic which is kinda hell right now.
after driving for the last couple of years, i can confidently say that i will not miss this roundabout! sure, it’ll make things a little less convenient at off-peak hours but it’s worth it for the traffic congestion it will (hopefully) ease. the traffic will probably still back up all the way to bukit bintang boys school on weekday evenings, but at least it will move at one point or another!
i hope the traffic lights along that stretch of road will also be timed more appropriately so that traffic will be smoother.
i’ve lived in pj all my life and it’ll be a little funny to not be able to say “neh…that roundabout in front of sin chew jit poh” when directing people to my house, but seriously…this move is long overdue.
Yea man, that’s been a landmark that I remember well. Speaking of which, why has it always been known as the Rothmans roundabout?
Hmm. Actually I prefer roundabouts to traffic lights, but the problem is people don’t use them properly most of the time (i.e. not getting into the right lanes).
BAT is still right next door, which I suppose used to be Rothmans or something.
actually i think navigating roundabouts = awesome skill. takes guts too! i’ll miss it, i’ve had heroic moments there
eh, i was going back and just realized.. it is still a roundabout wat :p
I know! The signboard says that works would be carried out in July, I’m just going according to what it says!
