BFM’s In Conversation with Patrick Teoh
Growing up, I missed the chance to listen to Patrick Teoh on-air because Johor people who are Chinese mostly watch Singaporean TV and listen to Singaporean radio. I don’t remember how I got to know about Patrick but I did, and as fate would have it, we became friends.
For a while now, I really wish I did listen to him because I heard so many stories of how funny and witty he was on the radio, told by friends, mutual friends, acquaintances and such. Classic Patrick Teoh, you know. Well I don’t! Grrr…. It sounds like the kind of programme that I would have very much enjoyed — 10% music, 90% talk, 100% entertainment.
Thanks to Caroline Oh’s BFM ‘In Converation’ interview with Patrick, I was able to get a glimpse of what it was – friggin’ awesome! I was smiling and chuckling to myself at a lot of parts, e.g. when Patrick talked about appreciation for opera:
“I wouldn’t know the difference between an aria and a sup kambing.”
Okay my point is that if you can only listen to one podcast this weekend, let this one be it!
You can also access it at BFM’s web page for the interview.

Kee Huat Radio’s Facts and Fancies..
<3
i had the luck to listen to Patrick a little when he was on radio 4.
there's no one else quite like him.
Yah he was funny and stuff……
Although there was this phase where he was with Radio 4 and he used to scold the stupid people who called in to the talk show but didn’t switch off the radios so they were confused with the 7 second delay thingy….
And pretty soon people started calling up the station to complain how rude he was.
But hey, I was a 5 year old kid. What did I know?
Suertes: yes! for more information, you can read his wiki page here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patrick_Teoh . not badly written, i have to say…
FA: is it surreal for you now to be drinking with him and calling him (and the rest of the universe) names when you are drunk? LOL
vincent: hahaha. the way his wife Min narrated it to me, man i would have really LOVED to listen to those calls! .. you were ‘allowed’ to listen to radio 4 ka?
haha i used to listen to patrick scold ’slow’ callers on radio 4 on my way to school in std 1. quite funny wan and then sometimes he’ll hang up on them when they’re talking halfway hahahaha
patrick teoh is my hero!
Patrick Teoh on FM was my life line when I had to travel every morning to work – a dreary 1hour’s drive. He was so sharp, caustic and sarcastic – and I love every moment of it. He and Yasmin were a perfect combination.
yes suan. still very much so. and the fact that he lets me get away with it is even more unbelievable lol.
Hahaha why would you think I was not ‘allowed’ to listen to Radio 4?
I was an awesome kid, I listened and understood talk shows! There was a phase in 1993/94 when then stock market was going crazy, and they even had lessons teaching people how to invest and I actually tuned in!
hahah i miss his cockiness on radio 4 too!
quaintly: with how patrick explained it, makes sense la. not having all the tech they do now to screen calls
ky: because u share the same chinese name?
aunt penny: i wish someone taped the sessions!!
FA: doesn’t stop you what
vincent: did you take any of their advise?
eiling: iyer not fair. i never heard any!
