tooth tales

Note: A collage below may be gross to some. You have been warned.

A few moons ago, I was advised to crown one of my molars. To cut the story short, the nerves of the molar where it was crowned got infected recently. Unfortunately the infection was not able to come out by itself (so to speak) because of the crown.

An x-ray of the molar was taken and it was decided by Dentist A that a root canal must be performed. As my molar was crowned by Dentist B, I had to make an appointment with Dentist B for the root canal.

So I did. When I met Dentist B this morning, she told me that she’d looked at my x-ray and thought that a root canal would only have a 50/50 chance of success rate. Something about this molar having 3 roots which makes it difficult etc etc, the problem was somewhere else etc etc. I understand what the problem is, I just don’t feel like elaborating here. I’m sure some of you will appreciate that ;)

My dentist suggested that I have a bridge performed instead. Basically she would extract my molar, then wait for 2 months for the gums to heal then place a crown where the missing tooth will be. I asked damn a lot of questions and told her I’d think about it and get back to her.

I got into my car, drove around the area for 5 minutes and went back to my dentist for her to extract my molar.

She jabbed me 4 times with local anesthetic and wanked out my molar. It was done in less than 5 minutes. This photos was taken right after my molar came out.

See, so happy, thinking it was a piece of cake… obviously still under the effect of the anesthetic lah.

Then the anesthetic started to wear off…

So yeah, I pretty much want to kill the world right now. But thought I’d channel my pain to blogging instead, seeing how I’ve somewhat neglected my blog :P

Here are some pretty photos of my molar! You see the bitch has a third leg that curves one side and is extra pointy? That motherfucker is the reason why a root canal would only have a 50/50 chance of success. The red bits sticking to the molar are bits of my gums, I think. Sorry, I tried cleaning it as much as I could. The whiter part on top is the RM500 crown, the silver lining is the cement that… uh, cements. Heh.

Suanie's extracted tooth

Feels pretty weird to have a missing tooth. It stopped bleeding lots but I can still taste blood. It’s okay, I’m not squirmish. Gums are painful though but I reckon it’s pretty normal, considering that my molar was so unceremoniously yanked out. Got a ringing in my right ear. Got a massive headache. Got lots of ibuprofen which will probably work better tomorrow. Quite hungry but not in the mood to eat anything. Sister’s maid cooked soup, I suppose that’s my dinner. Had to lock door to my room as Ryan was asking too many questions, expecting lots of answers even though I’ve told him that I’m in pain and cannot speak much. He’s howling outside now as I type.

Oh well.
