planks are ouch

I know I always say that I hate a lot of things in OBC. You should know me well enough to know that I say only… But there are times when what I say is absolutely true and I’ll tell you why.

One of the things I hate to do most is plank exercises. What is a plank?

Plank Exercise

You can read more on how to do it here, where the photo above is nicked as well.

The thing is that the OBC instructors only make us do planks after say, 30 minutes of other stuff. When you are bruised and battered, it’s not easy holding on to your planks. It can be done lah, just that you’ll hear a lot of weird noises from many of us. We once did it for 2 mins WITH The North Face backpacks filled with sand packs. Mine was 8kg. It was very, very painful.

Anyway I’ve been dreading the plank for a week now. Think it was about 2 weeks ago when we did planks and I bruised my elbow. It didn’t recover well or fast enough, then the next sessions with planks made it worse.

Result from doing planks

Looks like nothing but it hurts like shit when you are down on your elbows okay. By the way, please ignore the red spots around my arm. Result of a minor allergy reaction to either grass, sand, mud, dirty water or exercise ๐Ÿ˜‰

Kevin asked me to get something called Tubigrip, but I couldn’t find it in either Caring or Guardian. So I got the Scholl’s ProSport support for elbows. Wore it on Tuesday then realised halfway that we weren’t going to do planks that day, so took them off immediately. Not very comfortable okay, but I’d rather wear them than aggravate the elbow bruise.

Okay lah, I’m done whining. For now.

  1. You could always ask Vanessa / Lina / the other Tubigrip aunties where they get them. I’ve no friggin clue where it comes from either.

  2. I get exhausted just looking at the pictures. ๐Ÿ˜ก

  3. Suanie, I got mine at Nikey Shop in BSC but I dont use it at all. If you like you can have em. I think I used to getting bruised.

Uncle Kevin, so, we are Aunties la now ๐Ÿ˜›

  4. Kevin: noted.. thanks! but if they see your comment, you are going to kena lor… aunties indeed ๐Ÿ˜›

HB: it’s just in the head dude ๐Ÿ˜‰

Megaa: our sizes are different lor.. will try out the elbow support thing first..

  5. Ok, don’t kill me…but I actually LOVE the plank! ๐Ÿ˜›
I used to dread it too, until I learnt that the trick is to channel all our energy and effort on supporting ourselves with our abs muscles, not our elbows.

It’s still one of the toughest abs workout I’ve ever known but I realise that when we do it right (meaning work the abs instead of the elbows/shoulders), the ache from our abs the next day is rather….errr….orgasmic?

Call me crazy but really, I love the plank. ๐Ÿ˜€

  6. haha hell yeah i used to do planks for just a minute a day.. trembling all over man.. bravo for managing with an additional 8kg!

  7. or wear long sleeves ๐Ÿ˜›

  8. come come..
    i sapu iodine for u

  9. Core strength ftw!

  10. Eleen: I like it also.. but not when my elbow’s bruised like that. Well I don’t like it when I’m doing it, but you are right, the after feeling is great ๐Ÿ˜€ But I’ll never admit that I love it, NEVER!!!

Min: fuwah you are actually more fit than me! Good, good ๐Ÿ˜€ 1 min a day is not bad actually. it’s the doing it after so many other tiring things that’s @#(@#@() but at least doing something, right?? the pain better be worth it

    KY: hot

    CT: o_O

    ST: for the pain!

  11. Sounds like a yoga pose.

  12. They probably use it for yoga and other types of fitness workout ๐Ÿ˜€ It’s a standard exercise

  13. regardless… u should give yourself a pat on the back for a 2 minutes plank… i am still struggling to do it.

  14. Heh easy. It was a choice of either holding onto the 2 min plank, or drop and do 20+ grunts and couldn’t cheat on grunts. The decision was not difficult ๐Ÿ˜›
