original bootcamp malaysia: s03e08

Earlier this month we received an e-mail from Original BootCamp Malaysia (or was it on FaceBook group? Can’t remember) saying that there will be new toys to play with. A few of us asked the instructors for some hints of what the new toys would be. Of course they only grinned and refused to tell us. Well, no harm trying our luck, kan?

Seriously, what else can be so terrible? We’ve gone through sandbags, tyres, mock rifles (pipes filled with lots of sand), ropes, small tanks of water… We also got to know new friends such as Mud, Rain, Sun, Grass, Allergy Reactions, Sweat, Blisters, Bruises, Aches, Sand Flies… Though the good part is that they also come with Weight Loss, Endurance, Strength and Muscles I Thought I’d Never See In My Lifetime.

They did, and it came in the form of The North Face backpacks filled with 6kg, 8kg and 12kg of what feels like cement. They are probably sand packs, but they felt like lead.

We get a backpack each with different weights – Rangers get the 6kg, Seals get the 8kg and Deltas get the 12kg. I’m in Seals this month and I don’t envy the Deltas. This morning was the first time I regretted bringing a 1.5L of water because that goes into our backpacks as well. We jogged, ran, sprinted (or at least tried to sprint) around the entire Padang Astaka a few times. Only stopped to do assorted push-ups, squats, jumps, lunges and relays WITH the bloody backpacks on. Then back to brisk-walking, jogging and running, repeat cycle.

Before we get to warm down, we had to do 2 mins of planks and 2 mins of shoulder holds. A plank is when you lie on the ground and you support your body weight with toes and forearms. Shoulder holds (my term, really) is when you support your body weight with your palms. Both suck. Anyone who drops to their knees, get grunts as punishment. Grunts suck too.

And that’s when you’d hear strange noises and screams from me. I’m sorry if they sound a tad obscene but I really can’t help it. That’s my way of pushing myself so I suppose you guys will have to live with it ๐Ÿ˜›

I’m still amazed that I managed to pull it off. I was the slowest in the Seals/ Deltas, but I completed the damn thing! Couldn’t feel my legs, couldn’t even think properly to let the pain register. Sweat literally poured down my face. Felt like swinging the damn backpack to hurt somebody, felt like vomiting, felt like passing out, felt like giving up. Most happy that I didn’t.

Felt grateful to Sergeant Sim for pushing me to limits that I didn’t know I was capable of.

By the way, this whole psychological mind mental battlefield can be a rough game. I didn’t want to be in Seals, I didn’t ask to be in Seals. Inherent lazy nature, not wanting to do more what. So at the beginning of the month, I was up to my usual bitching – complaining and whining about being in Seals. After all I like to whine and I’m pretty good at it. Whine bitch whine bitch whine.

Then Sergeant Sim said, “Well, you are a Seal now. You may not be in Seals next month. You have to earn your place.”

I tell you ar, they really know which buttons to push.

  1. but seals can swim, suan.

  2. ya and seals can bounce balls on their nose!

  3. KY: That I can do

Pinkpau: That I cannot do ๐Ÿ™

  4. you did good today suanie.. although you were struggling, you completed the session and that’s the important thing! proud of you. ๐Ÿ™‚

  5. I’m amazed that they can still find new rabbits to pull out of the hat.. next thing you know they will make you carry a real rubber boat… or maybe a timber log.

  6. err…regarding the new friends, you forgot…..used condom, dog pooh, black ants.

be like me….3 times upgraded to Seals, I waddled back to Rangers…muahahaha

  7. Suanie…you did great today…especially with your cheek all swollen like that. If people didn’t know better, they’ll prob think we punch each other in bootcamp =P

Ruk : Ewww….used condom. In the middle of the padang? People are getting super adventurous nowadays O_O

  8. lol. funny to read your bitching about the bootcamp every time ๐Ÿ˜› great to see you keeping it up! ๐Ÿ˜€

  9. hey, i stumbled upon your Bootcamp ravings when i googled it ๐Ÿ™‚ seems really fun and i’m seriously contemplating enrolling for next month’s bootcamp.. but are there any 18-year-olds there? lol

  10. faizal: Thank you Corporal!

suertes: apparently the OBC in Aust has been on-going for a couple of years, and it’s never the same hour every time. but don’t give them ideas! ๐Ÿ˜›

ruk: omg used condoms?? i didn’t see that one!

tracy: thanks! damn the temporary crowning, pinching my gums!

shirley: hahaha you know i just like the act of bitching ๐Ÿ™‚ So how’s States? are we going to have to divorce on facebook soon? ๐Ÿ˜›

mims: we have an 18 y/o in our PJ 7am session. Don’t worry about the age thing. But if you want to sign up for next month, better do it very soon! Apparently there are going to be a lot of new recruits, and the OBC people will put a cap at 60 people per session. Already this month our PJ 7am has close to 60.
