smckl: oct ‘09: case studies with nokia, digi, foldees and spicy corner

Sometimes people ask me how social media works, especially for businesses or companies wanting to get their products, brands and/or services out there. I don’t know why they think I’m an ‘expert’ in the subject because I’m not. Sure, I’ve been blogging for many years and I am active on Twitter, Facebook and such but I consider myself a fan rather than a guru. I love the interaction, I love the various communities and I’m just the end user.

Besides, I try not to be a social media douchebag. Trying…

Well, here’s your chance to understand social media and certain companies utilise it in Malaysia. The Social Media Club Kuala Lumpur (@SMCKL) is organising their 2nd event next Thursday (the 1st one was a month ago where 15Malaysia was highlighted and I won a copy of Chris Brogan and Julien Smith’s book, Trust Agents. Which I haven’t read :P ).

It will be an evening of case studies, where Nokia, DiGi, Foldees and Spicy Corner will share their experiences (both good and bad) and thoughts on social media in Malaysia. I think it will be very educational especially for Nokia’s slot because they were among the first to reach out to the social media fanbois here in our country. Very brave of them, I would say! As far as I know, Hazel Abu Samah who is the Communications Manager for Nokia Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei will take to the stage. Not sure who the people from DiGi and Foldees will be, but am pretty sure that Ija Mohan will speak for Spicy Corner ;)

Date: 22nd October 2009 (Thursday)
Time: 7 – 9.30 pm
Venue: Sunway University College

Click here to RSVP your attendance. It’s free for all to attend, but seats are limited so you’d better RSVP fast! I will be going, and if you are there we’d be able to meet! Not sure why that would be particularly exciting for you, but there will be other fehmes local social media fanbois there so you can go talk to them if you like. Get their thoughts, ideas, opinions… I’m sure we’ll learn loads :)
