original bootcamp session: session 05
By right it should be session 07, but I missed 2 sessions due to my (most wonderful) Penang holiday, which I’ll blog about later.
I’m sure some of you may be amazed that I am still at it, given my lazy nature and multitude excuses to skip exercising. Round of applause to me, kthx
Thank you thank you. To tell the truth, the absolute worst part is waking up at 5.45 a.m. and struggling with myself whether or not to skip that day’s session. It is incredibly difficult to part with my warm and cosy bed, especially if you did not get enough sleep the night before. So every Monday, Wednesday and Friday night, I make a conscious effort to sleep early. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. For example, last night I switched on my notebook to find the screen in pink hues. So upset I was that I transferred all my stuff to my portable HD, in fear that my ancient notebook may further fail without warning. Finally slept at 2 a.m. then having to wake up 3 hours and 45 mins later is no fun.
After (un)willingly waking up, it’s a rush of washing up, getting changed and jumping into my car for fear of being late. The rest of the PJ 7am platoon has made it clear that if you get them punished for your tardiness, they would jump on you. Or something to that effect. By the way it’s a lie that morning air is fresher. If I rolled down my windows, I’d probably suffocate from all the carbon monoxide. At 6.20 in the morning!!
Throughout the journey to Padang Astaka, my head would be filled with thoughts such as…
This is shit. Why did I sign up for this?
Maybe I’d get into an accident. Then I don’t have to go.
If there are really aliens, they better prove their existence by landing their spaceship on Padang Astaka right about now.
I want to go home…
And sleep…
This is crazy. Why did I sign up for this?
I’d pass by the field to see the 5.45 am platoon sweating it out. It gives me an idea of what to expect and therein lies another internal struggle of whether to turn around and head for home. Such raging battles in my mind…
All right, just ignore all of the above. Once you get to the warming up part, it’s really not too bad (except for the 1st day when I felt like puking). Then it’s about 50 minutes of exercises with plenty of teaming up and the OBM instructors breathing down your necks to get moving. After about 40 minutes, I’d usually ask someone with a watch for the time. Okay lah a bit more to go, just do it lah.
The reward is the feeling you get at the end of the session. True, there be sweat pouring down your face and body, grass and dirt all over your clothes, hair, skin, underneath your fingernails… but in short, you just feel damn good, real great. I love it. You know you always hear people say that if they could do it, so could you? I used to think it’s a load of horse shit because no one will be able to understand my lack of stamina, no one!
So here I am eating my words. There will be a ‘Bring A Friend’ day for OBM – a free trial session if you will. I can bring in as many friends as I like (or as there are to participate) but you need to let me know ASAP if you want to join/ can make it. You will need to let me know by tomorrow — sorry about the short notice but that’s life. Details:
Time: 7 – 8 am
Date: 29th August (Saturday)
Venue: Padang Astaka
Remember: if I can do it, so can you! Let me know.

I think people turn into gym junkies because of the endorphin rush you get after exercising, it just makes you feel so freaking good especially early in the morning before you start your day. Granted I don’t have to get down and dirty with the grass, but I actually find myself looking forward to jumping on the treadmill, upping the speed and totally running until I can’t anymore!
i want to go …. but i’m in sg
