a card to keep in touch
I was looking for a birthday card for a friend when I saw the following:
It got me laughing for a while because: a) it’s funny; b) my previous job was related to Chinese metaphysics; and c) it brought back memories of what I used to have to write. The first person I thought of (after I was done laughing) was Jaime, as she was my colleague and she is still working in the industry. If anyone could understand and appreciate the inane hilarity of the card, it would be her. So I got it, wrote a personal note, stuffed it into the envelope, licked pasted a stamp onto it and had it sent off.
Apparently she loved it. Sent a lovely thank-you text message. Got me thinking that I should make an effort to catch up with her in real life; random MSN messages aren’t quite the same thing. Also got me thinking of the the year I arrived in KL — a small-town deer caught in the middle of the city lights. Jaime generously and graciously took me under her wing. She shared her wisdom, her experiences, her knowledge, her family and her friends with me, and showered me with so much love and kindness the way only a truly great friend can. For that I am eternally grateful, and I feel incredibly lucky to have her in my life.
I am not the praying type. So I hope you have a Jaime in your life too.
