t’was not a very good joke

Not much today as I am busy with stuff before I go on a much-awaited holiday. More on that tomorrow. Just want to share something that I feel is relevant to social media use, especially for friends and readers who don’t follow certain tech blogs.

Last Friday, Michael Arrington of TechCrunch (uh, where else heh) blogged, “Joking Or Not, Official Or Not, Facebook Needs To Grow Up” . The story goes like this: Randi Zuckerberg, an executive of Facebook Inc, spokesperson for the company on many levels and sister of Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg tweeted the following:

Randi Zuckerberg bad bouncer tweet

The tweet has since been removed. As Arrington said, he didn’t believe that Zuckerberg was serious about her threats. Perhaps she was merely frustrated at said bar and bouncer, something familiar to most of us who (used to) frequent bars and night clubs. However given Ms. Zuckerberg’s position, it was most unprofessional and she should have limited her personal opinion to her few close friends in private.

I akin it to [name] saying:

You get the drift. Not funny at all. So to my friends: when it comes to social media, you are associated with your company/ the company you work in whether you like it or not. You are the official/unofficial spokesperson and people will note what you say/ have said. Be wise in what you share in public ;)

p/s: does this qualify me as a new media douchebag? :D
