japanese buffet lunch at tenji, solaris mont kiara
A couple weeks ago, Horng, KY and I decided to lunch at Tenji at Solaris Mont Kiara. We’d heard wonderful stories of their buffet spread and how the food quality tops Jogoya (at Starhill). There were also tales of the incredible queue that goes round and round the block when Tenji had their RM40 promotion. Hence we made sure that that there was none of that promotion thing going on before we go, because we are superstars and not used to waiting in line*, heh
Lunch costs RM77++ per person, payable at the reception counter before entering the restaurant. Children below 90 cm eat for free. Should have brought Ryan with me. They have Japanese, Chinese and Western food all around, and lots of beverage options. Here’s what I ate and did not eat:
Grilled capsicum (peppers to some of you) was rather awesome! I had plenty of that. The seaweed (available at the Chinese line) was a bit tough to eat. It would have been better if they’d sliced it up a bit, rather than a big chuck tied in ribbons. I reckon you can only have one or two or that to try, else a bit jelak and your jaw gets slightly numb. Grilled squid was nice, fresh and squishy.
Edamame was soggy and not nice. Scallops was not bad, seasoned scallops is as what you get everywhere else. The plate where I labelled, ’something weird, don’t take this’ is seasoned fake shark’s fin with slices of crab filament. Didn’t go down well with me and I don’t recommend it at all. Seasoned seaweed Japanese-style was nice, we had lots of those.
I don’t take sashimi and oyster, but here’s a photo of what Horng had. The oysters were large (though not as large as the ones at Kensington, Seremban) and fresh, they enjoyed it. I think they said the sashimi was good as well, though the wasabi could do with a bit more oomph.

A happy Horng and a happy Suanie
I had better soft shell crab elsewhere. The soup thingy was rather delicious; only reason we didn’t finish consuming it was because we were too full. They had Singapore chilli crabs which I took loads. The sauce was nice, though the crabs may have been slightly overcooked. Favourite dessert was the chocolate banana cake. Would have eaten more if my tummy could take it. I am not a bottomless pit after all.
For the Western line, they had grilled meats, spaghetti and assorted Western type stuff. Grilled lamb was nice. Saw roast beef but didn’t take any. There was dim sum as well, didn’t try that. All sorts of Chinese food though no soup which is a bit of a shame. Lots of Japanese food, salads, bla bla bla. As mentioned, Tenji has loads of beverage selection. Soft drinks, all types of tea, a coffee machine, juices, young coconuts etc. My only complain was the paper cups for the soft drinks. Not very ngam lah. For dessert they have all sorts of cakes, pastries and unlimited Häagen-Dazs ice-cream.
We were quite happy about the food and the service. I think lunch buffets are more worth it than dinner buffets, because lunch is almost always brunch (on weekends so you can eat plenty) and there aren’t as many people. Left some nice feedback which you can see here and here.
*Only joking about the waiting in line part. Am dead serious about the superstars.

honestly i do not think those are ‘fresh’ squid, everywhere now even in pasar malam sells this squid. it taste n looks like squid but if u had more…it wont taste like one. normally the longer u cook it, the harder it gets but it didnt…..instead it was still soft….hmm….careful with what u eat these days.
