Same situation here in Sibu, but more organized and less violent. It's more about the cash incentives over here instead of threats. The police here are quite aggressive too, they pull out guns, cock it and point it to the heads of people fighting in pubs and clubs (usually after giving their face a good pistol whipping). It's the knee jerk reaction from the minions giving the less well armed cops a hard time in the past. Nowadays, Saturday night patrols are all heavily armed with automatic subs and handguns. I get the feeling that the cops are the violent ones nowadays, but not sure about KL. ...but that unsafe for police officers made me LOL too. Heh! Oh, but the HIV thing is scary though.
