noor nirwandy mat noordin is an imbecile

And so is everyone else ’slamming’ the current Selangor MB Khalid Ibrahim’s suggestion that UiTM be opened up to non-bumiputeras.

Not that I personally know a lot of non-bumis clamouring to be admitted to UiTM. Entrance to local universities (who do not practise that much of racial discrimination) is not that hard to get, if one would put in a little effort that is. Otherwise, there are loans and scholarships (particularly the FaMa scholarship) abundant in private institutions for those who wish to further their tertiary education.

Plus I don’t know why Khalid Ibrahim is even talking about UiTM. There are other more urgent and important things for him to focus on, no?

I don’t know about you, but I don’t wake up every morning wishing for non-bumis to be able to study at the university. Sorry for priorities.

But since he has bothered to raise the subject, it is inevitable for us to read about the reactions to his suggestion. Then reactions to the reactions, and reactions to the reactions to the reactions. At the end of the day, nothing will change, everything will remain the same. Khalid Ibrahim will move on to something else; hopefully something more pressing than this. Come the new semester, a new compulsory subject will be introduced to those at UiTM so they may study various voice structures, hand gestures and body language to make “CINA BALIK TONG SAN, INDIA BALIK INDIA” sound more menacing.

I have no doubt that UiTM produces (a few) excellent graduates. Some of my friends and colleagues received their degrees from the university, and thankfully they do not share the same sentiments as the current PPIM project director, the UiTM vice-chancellor and the 5,000 UiTM students who staged a demonstration in front of the state secretariat building.

That’s why we are friends and can get along beautifully. A common unifying factor is that we are able to see past race and skin colour to maintain our friendships, as well as to get the job done.

I didn’t learn that from studying at UiTM. They skipped the racial discrimination lectures.

But let’s get back to the article. I don’t need to emphasize that I am friends with people of all races to make my point. I am sure that it’s very tiring (for EVERYONE) to have to start off by explaining, “I am not a racist, I am good friends with Ali, Ah Leong and Muthu…”

Sheesh, get over yourselves.

‘No need to open up UiTM to other races’

PETALING JAYA: Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UiTM) is the last bastion for Malay and bumiputra students to further their studies and there is no need to open it up to other races, the Malaysian Muslim Consumers Association (PPIM) said.

In a response to the proposal by Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim for UiTM to open up 10% of its intake to other races, PPIM said the move would be seen as challenging the special rights of the Malays.

PPIM project director Noor Nirwandy Mat Noordin said the government and its leaders had to be tougher in defending such issues because although the country was multiracial, there was “no need to sideline Malay special rights.”

“If something like this is allowed to happen, then there will be a worrying situation where many Malay institutions will crumble and be ‘Malaysia-nised’.

“It is hoped that the exclusiveness of UiTM is not undermined by anyone and it be allowed to continue as an institution that will strengthen the Malays,” he said in a statement.

You can read the full article here at The Star Online.

1) Bastion? BASTION?! Fueling the on-going, unspoken but understood senseless racial war?
2) Keep your special Malay rights AND continue to lose the REAL war that is the survival of the fittest
3) Since when is bumiputera solely Malay?
4) When UTAR was launched, you buggers bitched so loudly that it’s a racist institution. Spot the irony.
5) What are you hoping to strengthen the Malays with that you cannot do with one or two non-Malays in the classroom?
6) Being Malaysia-nised is not derogatory. I guarantee you that it will produce not just better Malays, but better MALAYSIANS.

But no one ever listens to me. :(

  2. KY, 13. August 2008, 14:38

Well, how good can a university be when you’re surrounded by only basically one race? Where do you learn diversity? The way to work with people from all walks of life? You’re only well prepared to work at UiTM if you graduate from there.

  3. anoncoward, 13. August 2008, 15:41

actually hor, i have this theory.

Secretly the govt have an hidden agenda behind all this nonsense. It is to drive the non-malays out of Malaysia say by 2020 or keep them to a silent minority region say less than 2-5%.

strange but i share the same sentiment as anoncoward. Are they such afraid of 10%?

  6. julian, 13. August 2008, 17:16

Having a university 100% any group is a bad idea I feel - at university is when you make many friends for life, and the first time many people learn to live as an adult, away from the family and all. If it happens in a mono-cultural environment, they are likely to reproduce that environment wherever they go… what a waste!

  7. ShadowFox, 13. August 2008, 17:19

Senang aje, private sector can teach them a lesson in return.

Just bin all the resumes from UiTM grads.

    End of story.

I guess being Malaysian-ized is a curse. Tanah Melayu should just practice segregation like how South Africa has its apartheid! Thats the best way to go!!

“Entrance to local universities (who do not practise that much of racial discrimination) is not that hard to get, if one would put in a little effort that is.”

I disagree with your statement. I did my Bachelors of Law at UM. Sure, there was a different cutting point for each race to enter the Law school. For Chinese, you need to get at least 4 As and 1 C. I knew some of my Malay classmates had one A and a few Cs and listed Law as their third choice and still got into Law school. And many Chinese who got 3As and 2Bs did not get a place. It is a shame actually, because of the racial discrimination, many non-bumis do not want to do the terrifying STPM because they will not be able to get the program of their choice unless they get almost perfect scores. So those who can afford it end up going overseas and those who can’t just got to a private college. And those who can’t afford to go to a private college are forced to do STPM (like yours truly) and take whatever course is offered to them. My friend had 2As, 2Bs and 1C, i.e. pretty fair results, and she was offered a program at UM in Translation. She had no choice but to take that course.

If you don’t believe me, look around. How many Chinese dare to do STPM if they want to go to Med/Law/Business/Accounting school? Chinese has to fight for the 30% placement in local universities that are reserved for them. 10% goes to the Indians and the rest goes to the bumis. And all the smart bumis get overseas scholarship. And those that are not smart enough, get to enter the local university through the backdoor way, aka matriculations, and the leftovers are those who are forced to do STPM. And those that are forced to do STPM have 70% of the places in the local university reserved for them.

For UM medical school, a Chinese needs to get 5As and those who are lucky get in with 4As and 1B. Bumis after form 5 get into the Science matriculation program at UM, and the top 100 performances automatically get a place in medical school.

I state nothing but the true facts, as one in the system.

  16. spike, 13. August 2008, 23:04

it is quite puzzling that people can protest against admission quotas when there are clearly more important things to worry about. my most recent experience at a university made me realise how far ahead the rest of the world is. most people can speak at least 4 languages (of value! and not dialects like me!), are well travelled and most importantly….hungry.

I have seen the competition out there especially in investment banks and I am afraid and sad to say that Malaysia is still stuck in its own little loop while still believing that the rest of the world still wants to invest in it and holds it in favour. I am due back for a holiday within the next week and am interested to see how many people back home are aware that the world is slipping into one of the worst recessions since WW2. maybe that will give people something better to worry about rather than the current sensationalist stuff thats hitting the tape.

  17. leongsoon, 14. August 2008, 0:37

Hm, I’m listening, but does it really matter? I’m not really disturbed about disillusioned people holding up their imaginary “bastions” while slipping under the harsh reality that is survival of the fittest.

People wish to feel that they’re a cut above by having special rights. I say bollocks to waking them up, just let em stay and drown in delirium. Good Malaysians we can still produce elsewhere.

Btw, funniest thought-invoking post in a while, reading it was the lulz :)

  18. izad, 14. August 2008, 1:18

hahaha and they still dare claim to be non-racists. Looks like no one’s willing to call a spade a spade *le sigh*

  19. sewjin, 14. August 2008, 10:03

“Entrance to local universities is not that hard to get, if one would put in a little effort that is.”

(little effort); please tell me you’re excluding STPM students from your statement..

  20. malaysian, 14. August 2008, 10:53

    COMPLACENCY! and FEAR!

Afraid of a little competition… fearing that a lowly non-bumi can be the top student in their class. Fear of Shame.

Fear of racial violence. Since they shall outnumber the non-bumi race, violence could arise because of racial tension due to stuck-up degratory remarks on non-bumi students.

    ———————————————-
Actually its better for them to keep it a “bumi only” university:

    1. So that Malaysia-BOLEH-land can show to the WORLD that is the ONLY country to have a racially biased university. Something Malaysia-Boleh can be proud of. One reason also NOT to go to Malaysia-BOLEH for further study.

    2. Allowing a non-bumi to enter such a backward mindset university would weaken the non-bumi because they might be brain washed to be inferior.

    Malaysia Boleh!

  21. hw, 14. August 2008, 11:38

well UiTM can keep their Malay only status, I dont think the other races would want to enter a university that’s filled with incompetent bunch of ‘1 A, rest Cs’ people who got into uni because of their so called ’special privileges’.

Anyway, I don’t get what the big deal is with opening up just 10% to other races.. a mere 10% and they feel like it’s the end of the world for them

  22. Dabido, 14. August 2008, 12:17

Suan - That Oreo’s comment was me not listening to you! :-)
You know how you can tell when someone isn’t listening because they talk about something completely off the subject. :-)
Which brings me back to Oreo’s. :-)

  23. anoncoward, 14. August 2008, 12:28

    guys,

no need to harp on these ler. they can go on relying on these special privelleges but i must say there are more and more of them not needing this and proud of it. but still too few of them.

we, the other races (especially apek like me) bitch and moan but if you look closer, who is losing more? just go around the flats , the low cost housings and open your eyes. we have it good lar.

i oso must add the indians also have it real bad.

saying that we should encourage inter-racial sex! start to blur the racial line a bit. nvm the body snatching, when we are dead, we are dead. interacial sex ftw!

  24. crash, 14. August 2008, 12:36

anoncoward: inter-racial sex you say? have you not known that they already make sure that you will get a mohammed or abdullah attach to your name by force if you do that? not to mention you have to convert by force still..

  25. anoncoward, 14. August 2008, 12:51

    crash,

so? i know one abdullah convert still eat pork and still drink beer. the name is just an appendage to your name, doesnt change who you’re.

stay below the radar low enough they wont catch you la.

and btw, if you’re caught, they are not going to force you to marry the girl lar. but the girl will have it realllll badddd tho.

  26. Suanie, 14. August 2008, 13:24

HB: heh the feeling is mutual :P

lotsofcravings: back to the good ol’ days, eh ;)

charis: i’ve heard of many stories like yours. when i said ‘do not practise that much of racial discrimation’, i was referring to UiTM’s intake policy and not something like, say NUS. STPM wasn’t that bad what. I got through it :)

spike: that’s another thing. i wonder if malaysians can look beyond their own pockets to see what is happening in the rest of the world. hundred thousands have been laid off, the most surprising (to me) was Sony Ericsson. Starbucks closed down most of their outlets in Australia, and a lot across the US. Doesn’t seem to be a lot of attention or news regarding the global credit crunch.

leongsoon: yeah well, unfortunately for the rest of us still in this country and not leaving anytime soon, if ever. that’s why it matters, heh. btw i know you’ve been reading my blog for a long time, hence you can observe the lack of fire. i think it comes with age and time (working very full time already now mah) and unfortunately, complacency

izad: i love the inevitable opening speech of “i am not a racist… ” hahhahaha

sewjin: we should make a t-shirt for that, eh

malaysian: in the bigger picture, it doesn’t bode well for malaysia. hence i respectfully disagree with keeping it as a ‘bumi’ only institution

hw: from their perspective, it may mean an avalanche of the chinese and indians taking over the country, hahhahaha. apparently they forgot 1981 - 2003

dabs: that’s next week for me ;)

anoncoward: that’s true. too many malay and ‘bumi’ friends, esp. malays tell me that it’s considered a derogatory to be lumped together as ‘bumiputera’ when they are as smart if not smarter, and work as hard, if not harder than anyone else. and they are/ do. funnily enough, most were recipients of the programme, but we should look towards the future, no?

    crash: now now :)

  27. Dean Arif, 14. August 2008, 13:51

    Suan,

See… a lot of people are listening to you and my oh my, you have opened up the flood gate!

Aiya, just leave these kampung ceruk ketiak flers doing their own thing at UiTM and forever be the lembu dicucuk hidung morons lah. The more of them flooding into UiTM the better - less competition for my kids when they grow up. So I’m all for UiTM being reserved and preserved for these shallow inbreds!

Seriously, I’ve not encountered any UiTM grads with decent average intelligence - they can’t even put together an average-looking CV, let alone write the cover letter. It’s worse than Std 1 English I tell ya!

  28. bongkersz, 14. August 2008, 16:12

I don’t know about you, but I don’t wake up every morning wishing for non-bumis to be able to study at the university. <– LOL!!

Fine with me, just keep the university for themselves, since they feel the need to segregate themselves from ‘the others’. Like you said, how many non-bumis out there clamouring to be admitted to UiTM?

Even if they open up for 10% non bumis, I doubt if many will choose to study in a racially imbalance environment, especially when you are restricted to do many things just because you belong to the minority and ‘the others’.

As pointed out by one commentator, how good can a university be when you’re surrounded by only basically one race? No diversity, interactions among different cultures and no wonder many UITM students mix only among themselves even after stepping into the workforce.

  29. 9, 14. August 2008, 18:00

    dean arif:
then you should get out more, buddy.

    suan:
the thing is our ’special rights’ have made us weak and uncompetitive over the years. i for one think that we should do away with the NEP, if not now, then in stages in the future. make us ALL BUMIs. then everyone can enjoy discounts, quotas etc. heh.

when i voiced out my opinion on this, i was called a ‘pengkhianat bangsa’. how do u like that?

  30. u-jean, 14. August 2008, 18:46

In one of my lectures a few days ago, my lecturer said that our Proton (the car) tak kuat because of the perlindungan.

It kinda applies in this case doesn’t it?

  31. aeroplane1234, 16. August 2008, 10:08

i wanna know. who are bumiputra anyway? hang tuah is chinese and maybe kadazans are suppose to be the only bumiputras haha.

  32. zewt, 17. August 2008, 22:53

i read in one of of the BM blog saying that maybe students there were ‘told’ to go… know what i mean?

  33. tammy, 24. August 2008, 14:05

    hang tuah is chinese?

  34. Suanie, 26. August 2008, 16:48

dean: well lots more bloggers more influential than me have blogged about it before. i only know a handful of uItm grads, so far they are okay. i mean, some grads from other institutions are far worse ;)

bongkerz: yeah well. not good for country in a whole mah heh

9: they are very touchy, eh? :P

u-jean: ooo and a lot more other cases!

aeroplane: you forgot the ibans, melanaus.. heh

zewt: ah yes that could have happened.. who knows eh

tammy: some people believe so ;)
