farish a. noor’s book launch and other things

On Saturday, I thought I’d do something that I’d never done before — attend a book launch. It was for Farish A. Noor’s [insert number here] new book, Di Balik Malaysia: Dari Majapahit ke Putrajaya at Rasta @ TTDI. If I am not mistaken, it is a collection of articles, as well as some translation from his previous book, The Other Malaysia: From Majapahit to Putrajaya. ‘Di Balik Malaysia’ is in Bahasa Malaysia, and published by ZI Publications.

Two things I learned at the book launch:

1) Farish A. Noor is quite hot in person
2) Rasta’s keropok lekor is worth a second trip

Di Balik Malaysia book launch - speeches

Before the launch, Zain HD (of the infamous KL Freeze project) took the stage to introduce their new project — Read while Waiting Project (RWP). In short, it’s to encourage people to.. uhm, read while they are waiting for someone or something. And not stare at someone else’s clothes and make judgment about them. Or stare at someone’s kid hoping that they would stfu. Or waste 15 minutes of your life while waiting for the bus/ train to arrive by staring at the “NO FOOD/ DRINKS” sign. You know, stuff like that. Feel free to join the RWP Facebook event where I’m sure you can get more information on the project.

Then Ezra from ZI Publications gave a short speech which I couldn’t really hear because I was at the very back. Then Farish gave a speech and went on about Hang Tuah and his journey from being a gangster to becoming a hero. Then Zaid Ibrahim got up to say some stuff, I think in lieu of Harith Iskandar who was supposed to be there but couldn’t make it.

So many books to sign

You can get the book at major bookstores for RM 35, me thinks.
