why i worship tim berners-lee
Growing up, I always thought that Barisan Nasional was the be all and end all. In school we were ‘encouraged’ to buy newspapers to aid our language skills, as well as to keep ourselves up with current events. As I was in a national school for my primary and secondary education, and had so protested at being sent to ‘night school’ to learn Chinese, I never did learn my ancestors’ language beyond recognising the characters of my Chinese name. Hence my choice of newspapers were (and still is) limited to Malay and English medium newspapers. That’s my excuse for the first sentence of this paragraph.
Growing up, I thought that the Opposition were the scums of the earth. How could they possibly disagree with the obviously wise and sensible decisions made by our ruling government? My impression was that they argued for the sake of arguing, insistent on nit-picking and not focusing on the issues at hand. And when they were rebuked by any BN party members (and rightfully so, I thought), they’d launch into a tirade of name-calling and unreasonable debate. Such lowlifes were blinded by their selfish political ambitions, and could not see the pot of gold at the end of the BN rainbow.
Who else was evil? Hmmm.. oh yes, Singapore, those cheating bastards of a minuscule dot they call country. Our Sejarah teacher told us that Lee Kuan Yew successfully manipulated Tunku Abdul Rahman into accepting Singapore as part of Malaysia, so they would be safe from the communists. Tunku being the kind-hearted prince accepted. Then two years later, Lee unceremoniously ditched us. Con men of the highest order — who the heck do they think they are? Hey, Malaysia can crush Singapore if we wanted to, you know?! Whose country is bigger? Whose population is larger? Which country has more natural resources? If you Singaporeans think you are so friggin’ great, then we dare you to stop buying water from us! Then your people will die of thirst! Bwahahah! Arrogant SOBs.
(I was a very young 15. I probably didn’t really mean it anyway — Channel 8 was too engaging.)
Should I talk about Jews, otherwise known to me as orang Yahudi? Didn’t know a Jew, didn’t really know what constitutes a Jew except that they are this bunch of evil bastards out to dominate the world, and they must be stopped at all cost. And the only person brave enough to stand up and speak against their wickedness was our prime minister (at that time). What did the Jews do? Hell if I know. They were just despicable being them.
Western powers are akin to the devil. They are so hell-bent on polluting the rest of the world with their degenerate culture and deviant ways. Everything about them is so sickeningly evil that their ways must be wrong. Change of power every other term? Must be political instability. Look at Malaysia! We have had the same ruling government since Malaya! And they were put at the helm of the country by Malaysians! If that doesn’t spell democracy and happiness that the ruling government’s doing a great job, then you must be a Jewish American.
Then in 1997 I discovered the Internet. And everything was never the same.

How come the last pic look so … compressed together? LOL
in 97, my house was still internet-less. i raked up a huge phone bill at my then-boyfriend’s house reading mgg pillai’s stuff.
as ugly as the truth is today, it is so that we know that we are to do something to make tomorrow better.
nice one!
How come when I grew up I never once thought Barisan Nasional would be the be all and end all? Haha….it’s called change in education system.

The sad fact is that 70% of Malaysia is still following the mindset of BIS (Before Interweb Suan).
Which sucks.
Long live the Internet.
What is intaweb? A elitist’s way of spelling “internet”?
‘I never did learn my ancestors’ language beyond recognising the characters of my Chinese name’
You Banana!!! Even an Ang Moh as Bodoh as myself knows more Chinese Characters than that!!!!
‘What did the Jews do? Hell if I know. ‘
Darn, just after I learned Yiddish and got circumsized to impress you!!!!
‘Western powers are akin to the devil.’
Well, they’re not completely wrong there. Just consider what the US of A did with Project Monarch [part of the MK Ultra program] where they put children with known pedaphiles, drugged people with LSD unawares, put children in certain fanatical religious & idiological groups … all in the hope to learn about brainwashing techniques, because they thought the Russians were doing it. [And let's hope Jimmy Carter Really did put a stop to it].
SUANIE ????????????
Yes, that’s in Japanese, but I didn’t want to show off too much … plus I don’t have Chinese language installed on my machine. Only Engrish and Nihon go!!!!
Argh Frig!!! The Hiragana came out as stupid question marks!
I’ll write it in Romaji then.
Suanie wa banana desu!!!!
Wait a minute, that’s impolite. Let me correct it.
Suanie SAN wa banana desu!!!!
That’s better!
Ignorance Is bliss. “Katak di bawah tempurong” always a happy one. But when human thinking degrade in frog like creature, it defeat their responsibilities as human being, perhaps they should born again as frog

Dabido, to save your trouble, please use Unicode character input.
“Then in 1997 I discovered the Internet. And everything was never the same.”
You’re goddamn right it was never the same. I discovered porn!!!
But seriously, growing up, I used to think that Semangat 46 were the good guys. After 97/98 I became suitably impressed with how Mahathir trumped the IMF and decided that BN under the old man was fantastic. Then I went to uni and met even foreigners who were amazed with Mahathir’s ability.
These days, I don’t know what to think because I can’t think of a single politician that impresses me. There is a good chance I will spoil my vote rather than giving a mandate to either of the morons running in my area.
I remember, on the morning after the 1986 elections, an ad with these lyrics played continuously along with the results reports on TV (those days counting spilled into the next day):
Barisan, barisan, barisan telah berjaya
Barisan, barisan, barisan tetap barisan!
Barisan telah berjaya (Barisan!!)
Barisan telah berjaya
Bersih Cekap dan Amanah
Barisan tetap barisan!
I was told that Saatchi and Saatchi had a role in the BN ad campaign those days.. must have been picked after their success with Maggie Thatcher’s Tories.
Nandayo Dabido-san. Suanie wa banana jyanai. Suanie wa su-pa banana desu. *RUN*
Simon – Honto Dayo!!!!!
