I am so stoked right now, must have been the coffee (and a discussion with someone about the forum on Al Jazeera last night). Several things before I post another piece then retire for the weekend…
1) Pearson & Penguin Books Warehouse Sale
You absolutely, absolutely, ABSOLUTELY MUST go! I went to the preview sale yesterday, was giddy with happiness
And guess who I saw there with a huge stack of Tom Holt books? (HINT). Spent RM 108 on 11 items, 2 of which are for Ryan.
Among my buys: A Royal Duty, Confessions of an Economic Hit Man, Neil Gaiman’s Stardust etc. They cost between RM 10 – RM 12 each. I even got one of my favourite classics, Heidi for RM 5. Yes, I am aware that it is available on-line for free. But there’s just something irreplaceable about good ol’ printed paperbacks.
The warehouse sale is at: Pearson Malaysia Sdn Bhd, Lot 2, Jalan 215, Off Jalan Templer, Petaling Jaya, Selangor. PUAS should be on your left hand side, then take the first left turning after PUAS. Go straight till the end of the road, the venue is the last building on your right hand side. Wikimapia link here. Dates and time: 16 – 21 November, 9 am – 7 pm. Cash and credit cards accepted. Must. Go. Now.
2) The afro ain’t real
The afro do in the previous post was a digital experimentation by my colleague. Not real. I hear he’s giving me a mullet next.
3) It’s a Nokia
A couple days ago, me and a few bloggers had dinner at Rick’s Cafe Casablanca with Mr. Mahmood Kalantar (Nokia APAC business development big dude), Dinesh (Nokia AP communications manager), Hazel (Nokia (M) communications manager) and a few lovely Text100 PR reps. The get-together was to share with us on the S60 development, as well as to get our insight and feedback on the Nokia devices that we own.
Truth to be told, I am not a tech/ gadget person. I only know what I know from actually using a product, and gradually pick up bits and pieces about what goes on behind it as I trod along. Generally I am the furthest end of the end user. So it was interesting to learn some stuff about the S60, what makes it work, how smart phones will take over the world… etc. Makes me more appreciative of the gadget that I have on my hands
My 3 main grips about the N95 are: (a) short battery life if you use it as it is meant to be used; (b) Nokia PC suite which I think can be greatly, greatly improved to make my life easier; and (c) 5-megapixel camera that loads too slowly and takes grainy/ noisy photos. All these have nothing to do with the S60, right? Heh oh well. The food was good.
There and then I saw something that I greatly desire, the Nokia N82! Holey crap, I WANT THAT PHONE Z0MG!! Colbert blogged about it, so you can read all the specs and stuff there. We took some photos with the Nokia N82, and IT WAS SO BLOODY AWESOME!!!! Something about the Xenon flash; hey whatever it is, I loved it, but it’s only going to be launched next year
Sniffs, I hope someone loves me enough… … … (hint)… … … . .( hint) .. .. . . .. . (hint). . .. . . .. … ..
Then a few of us with Hazel, Dinesh and David stayed and chatted till past midnight. Dinesh told us about Jealous Computers… hahah very funny
Well it was really fun, thanks for having us
By the way here’s the link to Maddox’s article on Nokia E70 vs the iPhone.
4) My Gmail rocks (and James Yeang too!)
Gmail just got a whole lot better for me, thanks to James Yeang’s invaluable tip on how to archive all ye e-mails so they do not clog up your inbox. I swear I didn’t know what the ‘Archive’ box was for before this. Decoration, maybe. James Yeang rocks. James Yeang rock so hard that the Rolling Stones are out of a job. James Yeang rock so hard that Britney Spears crashed into Heather Mills’ other leg. James Yeang rock so hard that Tibet wants their mountains back. Yeah babyyy!!!
On an e-mail related note, Hotmail just got sexier looking with a lot more storage. Nice one, but a bit too late right?
5) Home sweet home
It’s back to Batu Pahat after work today for me! I miss my lontong.
