ratatouille a.k.a. the rat movie = awesome!

Suddenly I realised that I have been using the word ‘awesome’ in almost every part of my life. How awesome it is that such an awesome word is created to express the joy of someone or something that is totally awesome? Baffles me too.

Anyway this is going to be a very short one. Last Thursday, we were invited to a screening of Ratatouille; hosted by Intel to celebrate the 1st anniversary of Intel Core Microarchitecture. Quite a nifty idea — the premise of the movie that something so small could do something so great. I thought the introduced connection was smart :)

Ratatouille

By the way I’ve been calling it ‘the rat movie’, because I can’t spell ‘ratatouille’ without looking up the dictionary. I know how to pronounce it though, since it’s splattered all over the promotional posters. But since I can’t spell it without making some extra effort, I’m not gonna, so when I have to type it out, I’ll just refer it as ‘the rat movie’.

Basically, the plot lifted from IMDB.com:

Remy is a young rat in the French countryside who arrives in Paris, only to find out that his cooking idol is dead. When he makes an unusual alliance with a restaurant’s new garbage boy, the culinary and personal adventures begin despite Remy’s family’s skepticism and the rat-hating world of humans.

So here’s my verdict:

Animation: Pixar outdid itself again… AWESOME!
Voice talent: Bunch of unknowns who are often always better than famous type celebs… AWESOME!
Storyline: Your typical family relationships, some humorous parts here and there… AWESOME!
Everything about the rat movie: AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME!!!!

My thanks to Intel for the tickets (nice cake by the way, too bad we never did get to sample it ;) ) because I HEART HEART HEART the rat movie! I am getting my entire family to go watch it, and will get a copy on DVD for Ryan as soon as humanly possible. Hopefully that will get him off the CARS phase because to be honest, I am pretty sick of CARS by now.

Mini update: 0_0 I got sent a photo of the cake… see how awesome it is :D Actually not a good idea for me to be looking at cakes now… kempunan.

The Intel Core2 cake

The rat movie is my current favourite.. until we get to watch Bourne Ultimatum. Fuck Rush Hour 3, go watch the rat movie!

‘awesome word is created to express the joy’

Joy? It’s supposed to express a reverential fear!!! [At least in it's original meaning] :-)

‘I’ve been calling it ‘the rat movie’, because I can’t spell ‘ratatouille’’

Once you spell ratatouille one, you just need to copy and paste it. Other option is to just spell it Rat-a-too-ee.

‘I know how to pronounce it though, since it’s splattered all over the promotional posters’

So is how to spell it! :-)

    ‘Voice talent: Bunch of unknowns’

Eh? I wouldn’t refer to Peter O’Toole [aka Lawrence of Arabia], Sir Ian Holm [aka Bilbo Baggins], Patton Oswalt [aka Spence on King of Queens], Janeane Garofalo [movies too numerous to list], John Ratzenberger [Cheers], Brian Dennehy [Movies too numerous to list] as a bunch of nobodies. The list goes on … and on … but … all of those have also done voice work on movies before. [I mean John Ratzenberger was in Toy Story and Toy Story II - Patton Oswalt was in Kimpossible and other animated stuff before].

    Anyway, it sounds Awesome! :-)

Best Pixar movies on par with Monster Inc :)

And yes, French are not complaining about it. But

Disney and Pixar were working to bring a French-produced Ratatouille-branded wine to Costco stores in August 2007, but have abandoned the plans due to complaints from the California Wine Institute, citing standards in labeling that restrict the use of cartoon characters to avoid attracting under-age drinkers.

Well, talk about French wines vs California wine. California wine institute hates it. ;)

    lishun: DO IT OMG :D

    mad: madsome. awemad. aweku. awekusome.

Dabs: i think it expresses great joy. so it’s awesome on my blog. it can be fear on your blog :P

I didn’t spell it. I copied and pasted, then copied something else, then got lazy so it’s just the rat movie to me i don’t care omg!

voice talents: i quickly glanced through the list on IMDB, don’t recognised any of them so they are unknown to me :D Okay peter o toole and garafalo i know, the rest, nah. When I talk about unknowns, i was referencing it off people like eddie murphy, minnie driver, those buggers from shrek and [you name it]

moo_t: the wine idea is a bit OTT though, heh. Why Monsters Inc? I thought on par with Incredibles. But short film wise, I preferred ‘One Man Band’ from CARS rather than the one shown with the rat movie

I think the “training” part quite coherent with the movies. Hmmm, yupe, incredibles + Monster Inn. Brad Bird direct both Ratatouile and Incredibles.

So there is plan to redeem “your rat” from Ryan ;)

Unknown to you doesn’t make them unknowns! :-)

I mean, I could let you off for not knowing Patton Oswalt, because unless you watch King of Queens [Not that I do, but my mother does], or are familiar with voice talents [he does quite a few cartoon voices], you wouldn’t know him from a bar of soap.
But, John Ratzenberger [Cheers] is very well known (even if it is just from his work on Cheers), Brian Dennehy is a HUGE actor and SIR IAN HOLMS … I mean, that guy was KNIGHTED for his work as an actor!!!! [And surely you remember BILBO from LORD OF THE RINGS!!!!! Geees, it was only HUGE!!!] :-)

Now I’m going to run away before you hit me over the head with my own arms! :-)

Dude, I never watched CHEERS. Not my era. I didn’t even speak English until 1986.

No idea who Brian Dennehy is, or Sir Ian Holms, unless I see their photos.

The voice talent in the rat movie is not pimped out unlike other animations/ cartoons. I like it that way.

So, you don’t remember BILBO from Lord of the Rings? :-)

Can’t wait to catch the movie. Everyone’s talking about it.

  12. Suanie, 22. August 2007, 1:49

Dabs: I do. He’s in The Hobbit as well -_-”

    danny: have fun :)

Has anybody figured out Ratatouille is the name of a vegetable dish?

Here’s the ingredient list for it:

    1.6 kg tomato
    700 g eggplant
    500 g zucchini
    700 g bell pepper
    1 kg onion
    6 cloves garlic
    Basil,thyme, parsley
    olive oil
    salt, pepper
    140 g tomato paste
(12 servings makes about 4.5 litres)

[...] Nuffnang kindly gave me two free movie vouchers to go watch the rat movie. Since I’d watched it before, I decided to ask my sister to take my mom to the movies. Sort of like a break from taking care of Ryan all the time Since my second sister had way too many things to do before she leaves for her diving trip, I asked if my eldest sister could take mom to the movies. She said yes of course, and told my second sister to go redeem the vouchers (which specifically stated the rat movie’s real title), and to purchase an additional ticket for my brother-in-law.
