"The Internet was good in the sense that a person had the freedom to think and decide."

The Minister has made an intelligent comment. I have just told a LIE. Come arrest my ass (donkey, as opposed to buttock).

So, prior to the invention of the Internet, people were thought-slaves. Serfs of decision. Incapable of a single idea, original or otherwise. Hmm.. that explains a few things. Like Malaysian politics.

If people are posting lies, then there are already laws to stop them. The internet is just a different medium, BUT if someone posts lies, slander etc, then it is well within the rights of those lied against to take them to court.

I would wonder why they are not taking the normal avenue of recourse against these people, and I would also question how these new laws are supposed to work. Would they just be vetoing people from blogging who have opinions they don't like?

After all, if there were really lies being posted, then people can do the same that they do with news stories etc. They can get a court order to suspend the 'airing' or 'writing' of the news story whilst the court decides whether or not it breaks the law. So, they should do the same with blog posts and get a suspension on the blog post whilst a court decides whether it is legally allowed to be posted or not.

All these laws already exist. I worry why they need a new law for an old problem that already has laws.

For some people, blogging is a hobby, like collecting stamps. Only that my personal view is that collecting stamps is boring. I’d collected stamps for 4 years, and I’d been blogging for more than that. So I’m right

--> you are rite. I also been collecting stamps, coins, old coins, books but nothing except collecting my thoughts and views. & share it with the rest of the world - for eternity....

Why emo dey?

Any road, your moNSTer update brings back my favourite question: What will people do with so much freedom (of speech)? On a related note, are bloggers entitled to more "freedom of speech" than anyone else on this planet?

LOL

[...] I don’t know what the heck is wrong with el-Suan; being so emo for something that is absolutely necessary (please note that this stupid NST link can die anytime) in this age and time. [...]

You didn't touch the part that the law enact is going to interfere with other country affairs. Alas, when there is law use to terrorize blogger, is there a law stop politikus from hijacking the law, order and national wealth, etc?
