before i cabut to singapore…

I didn’t know this until a friend brought it up to me earlier. Apparently, traffic management at the M’sia FA Cup Final last Saturday was insanely terrible, that the Sultan of Kedah had to leave his car and walk 2 km to reach the stadium. It was a good 45 minutes walk. The crown prince was better off — he hitched a ride with a police on bike.

My first two thoughts were:

1) Eh, this is darn cool, because royalty being royalty, you’d expect them to be pampered and spoilt and stuff, right? But the Sultan was willing to walk all the way in order to show up at the football match. He could have just skipped the whole deal and went home, pleading old age and not feeling well and all that jizz, kan? So the 2-km walk was a great investment because I now think of him in a much nicer light. The Sultan is for and with his people and all that.

2) Bad traffic management should not have happened at all, because it was a big event and everything should have been well-prepared.

Then on Monday, the 79-year old Sultan was warded at the hospital for flu. The Kedah state secretary said he believed that the two incidents were unrelated, i.e. the Sultan falling ill after the 2-km walk. According to him, the Sultan was already not feeling well before the match. Kesian.

So on TV last night, they were showing bits and pieces from an earlier parliament session. Apparently some backbenchers got themselves all worked up over the issue, that it was outrageous that the Sultan had to walk, that it was Penang’s fault, that adat was broken, that Penang should formally apologise, bla bla bla.

Hence I loved it when the Sultan’s secretary went on to say, “The people are trying to associate the Sultan’s hospitalisation with the long walk. But we do not think Tuanku fell sick because of all that walking.”

My friend observed, “wong tai mm kap , tai kam kap.”

But looks like Penang will lead a delegation to visit the Sultan and to formally apologise to him. I guess the tai kams will get their way after all. My question is, don’t we have more important things to get upset about? Don’t sweat the small stuff, dudes.

Hey look, I’m Nuffnang’s featured blogger for July 😉

It’s pretty easy to get featured, I guess. Just bug Tim everyday about it until he ignores all your calls and blocks you on MSN. You can do it too! 😀

******************************************************

For some unexplainable reasons, I damn want to write an emo post. But I am not emo at all. But I feel like I want to be emo. How ar? Here goes anyway…

Night time. Sky so dark. Got stars. But the brightest star is not mine. Elusiveness. Pangs of loneliness envelops my being. Lucid dreams of seventh heaven but trapped in the stark reality of eighteenth hell…

Cannot make it lah. Maybe when I am really emo…

More short takes:

1) What to do on the bus to Singapore that will take 5+ hours ar?
2) Tiesto’s 2003 Nyana is a superior album. I hate his latest crap
3) No updates until next week 🙂
4) I wonder if I could bug someone to recover from an illness. DrB is my first experiment.
5) I am going to miss Ryan.

Oh. And you too 🙂

  1. Hi Suanie.. Congrats for being featured blogger of July. 🙂

I am staying in Kedah and I am very sad that my king has to suffer walking such terms due to bad planning by the management. However, I am sure that proper conducts have been done to apologize to the royal and should be no problems to be happening again, soon.

I don’t understand Chinese so could you tell me what’s the meaning of this line..

My friend observed, “wong tai mm kap , tai kam kap.”

Hey, you watch the football too that night is it? 😛

  2. Let them walk and feel how we gone through ma… Congrats that u featured in nuffnang blogger of July! Eh… dun mind I link u ah?

  3. Emo sessions should be had in private, with a private companion. Then only it becomes productive. LOL

On the thing about the Sultan of Kedah walking; there is a tradition in Negeri Sembilan where every time a new “Undang” (or Provincial Head) takes office, the person has to walk a certain route covering the entire province that the said Undang has to oversee. This tradition is absolutely mandatory and normally takes up a few days too. There are four provinces in Negeri Sembilan, so you can imagine the kind of distances that have to be covered.

Imagine if we made all our parliamentarians cover their constituencies on foot as part of their inauguration… wouldn’t that be something to see? Hahahah

  4. Wuahh my fav liang lui if july mia nuffnang featured blogger!!! PHEEWEETTT!!!

  5. hahaha yes yes.. just bug tim huh

  6. If our MPs are made to walk (the talk?) so often, then public utilities would have been improved. There would have been fewer instances of heart problems (hence fewer by-elections and that would save the Govt money from oiling elections machinery) and heart-attack related deaths. Maybe the parliamentarians shuld be made to park their cars at lake Gardens and walk to the Parliament House every session. That would be sumthin

  7. Hey Suanie, just so you know – You’re the featured blogger of the week at AllMalaysian Bloggers Project too!

  8. Dabido(Teflon) says

Congrates on being Featured Blogger. Funny they make you the feature blogger when you’re going to be away and not updating!!! Those silly people!!!

‘1) What to do on the bus to Singapore that will take 5+ hours ar?
Counting games – count baggage falling off bus, or count pedestrians run over, or count dead cats seen on side of road or count the minutes down by singing 300 bottles of beer on the wall, or count the number of trees that go past, or count the number of counting games you can think of in the trip. 🙂

    2) Tiesto’s 2003 Nyana is a superior album. I hate his latest crap
He called his latest album ‘Crap’??!!! Wasn’t that warning of some sort [or did I deliberately misunderstand?] 🙂

    3) No updates until next week 🙂

Come see Suanie’s blog, featured blog of the week … um … watch it sit there with no updates!

    4) I wonder if I could bug someone to recover from an illness. DrB is my first experiment.

If you torture a man long enough he will admit to anything, so go ahead and nag him, see if he admits to being better! 🙂

    5) I am going to miss Ryan.

For a self confessed baby hater you’ve certainly taken a shine to him … okay, so he’s no longer a baby. Anyway, best way not to miss someone is to take better aim. [Or so I teach at Air Rifles!] 🙂

Once again, have a safe and happy trip! 🙂

  9. Eh… can pinjam your nyana CD ka? Pls?

  10. Actually, I was kinda surprised the last time when the Agong (Sultan of Selangor) mangkat and all of the Sultans present actually walked with the procession from the Istana to the Masjid, or so I recall. So, walking long distances is part of the job description, I guess, even if it is not all that frequent.

  11. From what I notice, most royalty (meaning Sultans and immediate family) are very ‘normal’. Its the wannabees, those related to the royal family, and those distantly related (2nd cousin 4 times removed) that are arrogant. BN politions are the most arrogant!

  12. Be emo over food!

My Char Wan Ton. Lacks crispiness. Around me, all others crunch into theirs with delight. Soggy, I weep within for the lack of true Char Wan Ton upon my plate.

    I’m bored 🙁

Have fun in Singapore and hoist a few for the corporate slaves who can’t go on holidays T_T

  13. Was in HK for their 10th anniversary returns to China last weekend. Their traffic management was really efficient! Imagine 40,000 people leaving at the same time, we had just minor traffic jam and the MTR was not crowded at all!

  14. wah. feature in nuffnang. tats like being feature like an artist in MTV… is it? Well Congratulation and weldone babe. keep cool blogging yah.

  18. wong tai = emperor

    kap = mind / care
    tai kam = eunuch

  19. and why don’t they apologize to the rakyat too? after all it’s not only the sultan who was affected.

  20. knowing his Highness, he didn’t really mind walking all the way, and must be feeling confused on all the broo-ha over his illness.
