The Borneo Rainforest Cafe @ Sunway
We were invited to the official launch of The Borneo Rainforest Cafe at Sunway. Actually Sultan Muzaffar was the invited one. He had extra slots for more bloggers and asked us to go. So generous, heh!
The Borneo Rainforest Cafe is the brainchild of Datin Seri Tiara Jacqueline. According to displayed news clippings, the business is a collaboration with David Teo but currently I can’t seem to locate any references to it. The eatery is located directly opposite the Sunway Hotel & Spa along Persiaran Lagoon, just in front of an open space parking lot.
It was rather easy to find, the decor was mostly wood and trees and other greens… reminds you of Borneo jungles! Tables were set al fresco-style. There were soft toys in the shape of beruks hugging the wooden pillars, cute!
Me and KY were among the first to arrive. After signing in, we saw Asyraf and Stephanie and chatted with them for a bit. The boys were talking about their massive equipment (i.e. cameras) while I tahan lapar by sipping on my drink.
Sultan Muzaffar arrived not long later, so camwhore a bit first…
After a while, TV Smith and Leen arrived. But the VIPs had not so we couldn’t touch the food 
The aroma of whatever was cooking was tormenting me for one full hour…

Slightly after 9 pm, the guests of honour or rather the owners arrived at the scene to much paparazzi shots…

At that time I was one footstep away from dying of hunger so I did not join them up front for the official launch gambit. Apparently there were fireworks, traditional dances, speeches… all very lovely I’m sure.

Finally we could eat, yay! It was buffet style, so being Malaysians, you know lah… The menu was mostly Malaysian with food like nasi dagang, nasi kerabu, otak otak, char kuey teow, nasi lemak, mee hailam, umai, laksa Sarawak… Some not-so-Malaysian stuff are available as well, such as grilled crab, lamb chops, baked cheesy oysters, this and that pasta…
TV Smith got Tiara Jacquelina to our table for a mini interview. She was nice, warm and enthusiastic. According to her, there would be 8 stalls selling over 100 types of food. She had a big hand in deciding the menu, mostly stuff that she loves to eat. Patrons would order from the menu and receive 5-star service. Undoubtedly the service was rather good on the evening of the launch. If they could maintain the level of service that we received, I am sure they would have returning customers.

I also camwhored with Sofea Jane… she was friendly, nice and funny. I’ve always enjoyed her movies and told her so, as well as she being a superstar. “Superstar?” she mused, “No lah now I Supermom.”

Must check out this place. Dying for all things Borneo (missed the Festival on 13). Sunway ah? Aiyo, I must pay double-toll from Klang for some culture-vulture. Klang got vultures only (and Melor, Pelita, Asoka – nice la and for $5, can eat well).
Tiara – cantiknya and Siti (my 12 y.o nephew was deeply in love with her when he was 5) always the gadis Melayu yang termanis.

makcik: kesian… it’s directly opposite the sunway resort hotel, in front of which are some horribly fierce and aggresive statues of lions or deers and gajah. behind the restaurant is an open air car park
I really wanna know about their operation hour. does the cafe open for lunch? Really wanted to try once..any idea?
went to Rainforest last night and it’s gonna be my first and last time ever to visit the place.the waiters are freaking unfriendly and the menu is like so shitty.
was there at 8pm with my 2 female friends.went to order the grilled fish and was told that no more fish.change my order to ayam goreng incha and was told out of chicken also.
the waiter see you pretended like didn’t see you.they won’t bother to serve you unless you’re mat salleh.i saw with my own eyes how one of the waiters took the initiative to serve 3 mat sallehs before us even we arrived first.
so what u think?

Well I’ll agree with Leo atleast on the Crappy Service part. We saw the advert in EXpat KL and planned to go there.Drove all the way there including a family of three kids, ambiance seemed good. Ordered food to some waiter (most likely a central Asian guy). Drinks took 15 minutes to come , then nothing for 45 minutes, asked for atleast soups to be served , waiters all running helter skelter in a very disorganized manner hardly responding.On reminding he apologized but in the worst choice of words (using words like bulshit . . . etc). After an hour one of us walked to a lady who was managing the chaos, turns out she had no order !!! the waiter called up and admitted that he dint even placed the food order since the kitchen was temporarily closed !!
I went there on the tuesday nite, Bongga bongga was performing on that nite, i don’t like them, they don’t do their job well enough, that place should have salsa band or jazz is much better.bongga bongga makes that place look cheap lah, please.
i was there last nite with my nephews and female friends, and i’ll agree with Leo and Khan. Ordered french fries but after 1hr i got nothing!! and they not inform us at all. So my nephew asked the waiter bout the order, (ahaa..heres the story started) then only they inform us that the f*****g french fries are finished!! i was so damn angry coz it happend for so many times!! Quarrelled with the guy who took our order and guess what.. the couple who sitting beside our table had a same f*****g prob with their order!! hmmm.. What shall i say then?..

We have just replaced the old management and upgrading our services and food .
firstly, you’ll need to get some english language lessons cuz you written english is atrocious. I can just imagine how you had ordered your french fries, maybe they didn’t even understand your order. How do you wait a whole hour without checking what had happened!! Seems like the only thing you know how to spell are foul words and even that you’re not allowed to spell them in full!!
Hi guys , well sorry for the late reply but i checked with the service & kitchen crew and found out that on that particular night , we did not encounter any item 86 ( items not available in the menu ) with regards to the french fries .
Anyway , if there are complaints or comments guest are able to fill up a standard comment card we provide .
To cut it short , also remember to call for the manager on duty to attend to you , as we have minimum of one manager in the premises during business hours . . .

i once worked there as partime, those days in the mid 2008 were the early days of opening of Borneo rainforest rest. i do admit those days were mostly chaotic days. what i could see happened down there was lack of service. The restaurant managers were more to entertainment rather than taking care of their guest at the resturant, mostly the priority given to the club which were just beside the resturant itself. i wonder whiy myself, maybe because the revenue comes more from the club, but then again is a total waste if they ignore the restaurant, the place was nice, and it is a total shame if they were still failed to served their guest excellent service.
I just got home after visiting this cafe with my family. The reason why we’d decided to give it a try because of the food review in Star newspaper.
Well, this trip turned out to be not-so-good. I will not go back for second visit to this cafe at all. The sarawak laksa was too diluted and sweet. It didn’t taste like sarawak laksa at all. It failed miserably compared to the sarawak laksa in the food court below one academy or the bangsar’s one. The mee koloh sapi was too salty, and the soup served along was just some plain soup with bean sprout. My grilled chicken chop stuffed with prawn was overly cooked. The meat was so dry and the prawn was not fresh. The food here is not cheap at all, so, i had expected the quality to be good. But, it was to my great disappointment. It is such a pity that this beautiful place doesn’t have good quality food.
The waiter’s service is not bad. He is polite and quite attentive. But, this alone will not earn my next visit.

Celebrated my wife’s birthday last night (May 3, 8pm) there. Started off good, the food was excellent (save for the chilli crab which was not fresh and had to be sent back) but what took the cake was when my wife was physically manhandled and shouted at by a bouncer named Bob because my kids left through the pub entrance after 10pm, which was not allowed, apparently. It was our first visit there, how were we supposed to know that there was another exit? He could have politely told us and that would have been the end of that. Instead, he became physical, was very rude and refused to apologise to us. All of the sudden, it became about class and strata, because he accused me of putting him down since he was a lowly bouncer (his words, not mine), which was most certainly not the case. The way the goon did it was highly offensive and if it had taken place at a mamak shop, I would have just brushed it off. But for this to happen at a fine dining establishment such as this is very disappointing. The manager we spoke to (Azmi, I believe) simply washed his hands and basically told us that he could not do anything because Bob was on contract and that he was getting a headache, for cripes’ sake! I feel bad for Datin Tiara, whose hard work and vision may be for nothing because of the actions of a few idiots who have no business being at the front end of the service industry. It will definitely be our last time there and I’m even contemplating filing a police report against good old Bob.

such a lovely location resturant is it .if some one wanna dinner with STARS MOON .WATER and have a feeling to eat some real MALAYSIAN food in a location that can;t find in selangor must go one time atleast and enjoy ur dinner.i been there with one of my canadian friend he is a teacher in sunway universty he is a fan of borneo now .
