pimpage: big apple donuts & coffee/ satellite party
One day my sister came home with a big box of doughnuts. Very enthusiastically, she told me to try them. But I looked at box of doughnuts with disdain because:
1) I am not a doughnut person
2) I am not a doughnut person
3) Repeat 1 and 2
Then dinner was late that day, and I had no choice but to consume a doughnut to tahan lapar.

Then yesterday, I had this inane craving for doughnuts, no thanks to Kim and Nick. So during lunchtime, I drove to The Curve to get myself some lovely doughnuts from Big Apple Donuts & Coffee.

It’s a little shop between a shop being renovated called ‘The Apartment’ and ‘Eden’. They have ample of varieties to choose from — mango cream, bananarama, green tea, this and that icing, berry, glazed and semi-glazed, and so on. RM 2 for one doughnut, and RM 17 for a dozen. Can’t remember the price for half a dozen. Who wants only half a dozen anyway?

The owner of the shop, Mike was there. Friendly, amiable chap and we chatted for a bit. Mike had spent several years in the US and wanted Malaysians to savour the same doughnuts he had there. I mean, if you are in Malaysia and never been out of the country, you’d think Dunkin Donuts to be the heaven of donuts. I thought so too, then…
Mike’s face literally lit up when he talked about his doughnuts. He said that he bought his machineries and ingredients from US, so I was thinking that his everyday cost must not be cheap lah. The outlet in The Curve is the first and they will soon expand to Sunway Pyramid and maybe other places. Even customers from Singapore are begging for him to open an outlet in the Lion City! Just a matter of time before world domination

You should get yourself some doughnuts from Big Apple Donuts & Coffee at The Curve too!

It has been a while since I was so excited about a new band/ album. Even my late discovery of John Mayer was not this big, and I was pretty big on John Mayer. So excited I was about the following band and their debut album that I could hardly contain myself when I told Serena about them.
Introducing SATELLITE PARTY!!!!!!!!!!!!! Granted some of you may have already heard of them, may like or dislike them, but it’s my blog and hence it’s my discovery!! Satellite Party is fronted by Perry Farrell who used to be in bands that I couldn’t care less about.
The lead guitarist is Nuno Bettencourt whose legendary skills can be heard in the song ‘More Than Words’ which is the sappiest song I’ve ever heard ( in a bad way ) and I cringe every time I have to listen to it. So I am glad he grew out of that.
The debut album is ‘Ultra Payloaded‘, released late last month, and it embodies fun, funk, Britpop, weirdness, happiness, a bit of metal, Jamiroquai’s spacey-ness, and I think it contains elements of warm, familiar tunes. Can’t name those tunes to save my life, but there you go.
With song titles like ‘Wish Upon A Dog Star’ ( first single ), ‘Kinky’, ‘The Solutionists’, ‘Awesome’ and ‘Insanity Rains’… I’ve been listening to them for a few days now and I grow more in love with their songs and music. My current favourite tracks are ‘Awesome’ and ‘Woman in the Window’. The latter has a couple lines that go, “Just try and stop us, we’re going to love.”
Yes I’m emo. Whatever.

dammit. *skips work and rushes off to the Curve*
you sure it’s the doughnut and not the shop owner that’s nice?
Heheh..
you look like you’re afraid of that donut in the pic. :S
OMG how many donuts did you eat - there’s a donut shop located at the lower ground level at Raffles City Shopping Centre - the queue starts like BEFORE the shop opens - swear to god man - those people are deprived of donuts and limited to only 2 dozens of donuts.
Remember Bread Talk’s queue - well similar to that. If this shop opens in Spore it would be another crazy queue.
OOOH I just had those in Bandung! Except there it is called J.CO Donutes&Coffee. Memang the BEST DONUTS I’ve ever had! I’ve not checked out the one at the Curve though. I really should to see if it is different.

Eh? You said you weren’t a donut person. So in this case we’re the same!!! You just happened to have found some that you like. I still bet you’re not a donut person though if offered other donuts.
I’m sure there is a lot of things we both like. Only person I know who seems to NOT like what I like divorced me ten years ago!

Tried this with black coffee in the afternoon with some friends, Its good and just right with the black coffee. Last time tried Krispy Kreme in HK, even my black coffee still taste too sweet. lol

I heard and read that Big apple donuts is a exact copy of JCO Donuts from Indonesia. JCO is the original. Big apple and JCO donuts look the same except for a few flavors. JCO is still the best and the lines are so long at pavilion.
just click to the original premium donuts!!
http://www.jcodonuts.com
please deh malay…be creative, at least j.co only took KK concept but not their recipes and KK donut form!!
cappee deh… dear Mr. Hardy, please confirm that ur not rip off J.Co to the world!!
Really so nice meh?
wah.. nice big apple donuts.. i like it
Gesh… Big Apple?? What a “Me Too†Strategy of J.Co Donuts & Coffee, The Logo of the brand is a combination of J.Co and I-Crave, Using the same open kitchen outlet, even the donuts its exactly like J.Co.
J.Co is totally different with Dunkin’ Donuts, come on… its different kind of innovation both from the product and marketing strategy. But one and the only Big Apple invention is on their brand… everything else is copy cat.
Well, even though I haven’t try any big apple donuts. Sorry for make me to judge them at the first time. But I’m pretty sure it quite much the same with J.Co, Isn’t it? Even its different, they just change the compositions of the donut ingredients.
@ Hardy (Management Big Apple Donut&Coffee)
“Big apple is not a franchise…we have our own recipe from USA.”
Of course your not!!! you just steal J.Co recipe which is not from USA but from Indonesia, ******Shame on you copy caters*****
See my review about J.Co : http://andrigilang.wordpress.com/2007/11/30/the-story-behind-the-hole
can you get big apple’s phone no or email. thank you
Is tat true? Big Apple Donut copy J.CO Donut?
do not quote me but rumours were rife that jco owner had actually learnt the trade from krispy kreme and was to open the branch in indonesia. unfortunately, there were arguments and owner went back to open.. jengjengjeng jco instead.
they have an outlet in kelantan.. but not yet in penang… wtf
