jailbirds and noobs
I guess the biggest news over the weekend was Paris Hilton being sentenced to jail. Arriving 10 minutes late to court surely didn’t help the judge’s mood.
Then someone close to her (either her odd mother or her solicitor) was going on about her being targeted because of who she is bla bla bla. Typical Hollywood bullshit. The law is the law is law; she does not deserve special treatment just because. Go to jail, do not pass Go, do not collect $200 even if you are a Hilton.
But my point is that our Malaysian government would do well to take a leaf out of the judge who presided over Hilton’s hearing. The law is the law is the law. So there.
Then on Saturday, ZAM suggested that Malaysian bloggers be categorised into professional and amateur bloggers. Taken from SK Thew’s blog (’cos I malas to read news on actual news sites unless very necessary),
We have to control this. It is feared that these (blog sites) will be misused by those who have an agenda to spread slander. By right, there should be a mechanism to control this phenomenon, including by classifying web bloggers as professionals and non-professionals.
There was one comment that got me LOL.
Seriously, I think we need to classify instead professional and amateur minister considering that we have so many so-called minister speaking with foot in their mouth.[...]
True, so true…
I don’t know if I should take ZAM seriously. After all, it’s not as if he has a list of reputable credentials to his name.
I do have to give him credit though — I learnt the meaning of ‘sycophant‘ after the word was used at the back of the book he wrote on the Tun. Thanks, ZAM!
If we classified the ministers, I doubt there would be any Professional ones in the parliament. Hehe
Hehe, but actually true what..
You go see PPS and see how many people call themselves ProBloggers?
Funny… when I read the Paris Hilton story.. all I can think about are the fancy sports cars illegally parked in Bangsar.
nicktay: bwahah! oh well… time for a new one? would it be the same? Lmao
vincent: hahah yeah though I’d rather they label themselves as such rather than someone else, u know?
izad: they periodically kena saman also. i don’t want the police to waste too much of their time saman-ing the cars, rather them go do something else more worthwhile of their time. we already lack police officers.
btw i know who won TARA-AS. Sucks
Unfortunately, all politicians are professionals as they get PAID to do it. This of course doesn’t mean they are any good.
Classifying bloggers into Amateur and Professional won’t help, as obviously it’d just split them into groups of who gets paid and who doesn’t, it won’t get rid of slander etc.
Anyway, whether slander is committed on the Net or in a publication, the law sees them the same. [Same as threatening a person on line is still as illegal as doing it in person or over the phone. etc].
There are no new crimes, only new delivery methods thanks to the internet.
If a blogger slanders someone, then sue them! No need to regulate bloggers, as blog sites, if anything, makes it easier for the authorities, as the stuff is WRITTEN there on the internet. Easy to down load a copy and use in a court of law!
Beleive me, I considered sueing someone once for the crap she’d written about me on her blog … but I slept on it to allow myself time to calm down before making a decision, and she’d deleted it in the mean time.
[So I didn't grab a copy].
Re: the bangsar parking thingy… Pfft.. saman means nothing to these rich folks. I always thought the only good solution to these would be clamping or even better, towing the cars. Give them what they don’t want - inconvenience. Hahaha. And TAR:AS.. urgh yeah I know.. thank goodness knowing the winners already softened the blow.
Dab: It’s just a dumb idea from the beginning till the end. And as politicians go, should one day *someone* falls out of favour with the reigning government, guess who he or she would turn to? None other than local bloggers… not the first time.
Izad: Heheh true that. Why did my fav team didn’t win!!!!!!!!!!!
what on earth gave them the idea the blogosphere is a place for them to regulate in the first place, i’d like to know.
