intel + bmw sauber f1 team @ pit lane park, kuala lumpur

We were invited by Intel (together with BMW Sauber F1 Team) to a cocktail reception at Paddock Lounge, somewhere between Darby Park and at the edge of the KLCC park. Luckily we didn’t park IN KLCC, unlike James ;)

The sky that day was a real pretty blue dotted with white fluffy clouds, and it was friggin’ HOT. I guess I’m too spoiled by air-conditioning ;)

First of all, here’s ShaolinTiger with white wine and his huge ass camera.

Joey G from Channel V was the emcee; I laughed to meself when he was saying stuff along the lines of ‘Intel performance etc etc BMW Sauber etc etc more moRE MOREEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!’ Didn’t he get the same script for Pepsi Max? :P Or maybe I recognised the wrong ad — could be the Rahman dude in the Celcom ad. Whatever.

He was pretty cute for a pretty boy. Not my type (I am not theirs either) but some people like it so… :D And his wife was kinda hot ;)

Then Ms Debjani Ghosh, Country Manager of Intel Electronics Malaysia took the stage with Timo Glock. She talked about the collaboration between Intel and BMW Sauber for a bit, then something about Multiply advertising campaign etc. Unfortunately I didn’t really pay attention because I was too busy snapping photos.

Then Timo Glock had a Q&A session thingy, I didn’t pay attention either; was trying to capture a photo like the below:

It isn’t the best photo in the world, but I like it :)

Here’s camwhoring with Timo Glock. What are (semi)-famous people good for, eh? ;) He was really nice and tolerant though :D I like :D

There was a presentation of how kick ass the Intel Core 2 Duo processor is; basically they had this guy dancing there and then and filmed it…

… then the video file was transferred to a single computer, and two guys started to edit/ enhance the file, opening up many many applications to add video effects to the file on two massive screens. All connected to one SINGLE computer (no doubt fully optimised for this demo). The flow was pretty good as well (i.e. no lag, at least from what I could see). Pretty impressive. They were using Windows XP, it didn’t even crash ;)

Maybe someone can get me one of those Duo processor thing for my birthday. Everyday is my birthday.

Actually I am not a big F1/ circuit/ erm, race stuff person. So I didn’t have a clue what Intel wanted with BMW Sauber, and/or the other way round. Didn’t really think about it, wasn’t in a thinking mood, so it was a good thing that the following information was given in the press release:

Intel will work with the BMW Sauber F1 team on a variety of technologies related to racing, such as telemetry data, computational fluid dynamics, aerodynamics and other critical design and performance issues. Intel technologies will also be integrated into the team’s headquarters including servers, workstations, laptop PCs and other functions.

That’s not half bad, if I may say so myself ;)

There were quite a few activities one could do at the Pit Lane Park. The simulator stuff was one of the more popular attractions.

You could also have your photo taken with a pit chick (my own term) — some kind of Wi-Fi enabled camera, then printed rather instantly. Interesting. I almost went for it but ended up didn’t, for a variety of reasons that will remain mostly unrevealed ;) p/s: ask me on IMs if you really want to know.

The best beST BESTTTTTTTtttttttt part of it all was…. jeng jeng jeng… CHRIS PFEIFFER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Intel-BMW Sauber - professional mat rempit

Dude was performing crazy ass stunts which were BRILLIANT; the crowd loved it, he obviously loved it, altogether it was a pretty good show. Truly an icon our local mat rempits should aspire to emulate.

Here’s a 1-second video clip of his bike screeeeeeeeching… yeah I know it’s a less than short clip, maybe even defeats the purpose, but it sounds good if you replay it over and over again ;)

Dude was AWESOME with a capital Z0MG!

Then someone famous (I don’t know who, must be a driver or something because the emcee was pimping his autograph session) Aaron Lim came out and did a couple of spins in a BMW Sauber F1 race Formula BMW car.

It was fun, thanks to Intel for the invite.

If you are not going for the GP in Sepang, you can head over to the BMW Sauber F1 Team Pit Lane Park and have a few interesting things to do/see for FREE. I mean, it’s in the middle of the city — one can only lepak at the KLCC fountain for so long. The tarmac burns asses you know.

Date: 4 to 8 April 2007 (until this Sunday)
Time: Not sure, ST said almost all day.

You can view a map of the location at ST’s.
