the thursday after christmas

Remember my ear fucking up and I had to undergo a minor operation and everything?

Well THAT didn’t solve the problem. Was pissed off about it because I felt it was the doctor’s negligence, but I won’t go into details now.

Anyway I was on MC today so I could go remove the collected pus that was building up, causing me to have headaches and other head-related discomforts.

Ah fuck it, I think I’ll rant about it anyway.

So the first time I went to the doctor, the lump was swelling and it hurt a lot (naturally). This was not the first time it happened, and I finally gave in to my family’s urging to see a doctor and hopefully get it sorted out, aka find out what the hell was wrong and have it rectified.

For some reason or the other, I ended up at [nameless hospital]. The ENT specialist was very nice and kind, and he recommended that I undergo a minor op to have it removed. So I did.

Turned out that lump was a non-malignant cyst, so I was happy to have it out of my body. Foreign stuff + in your body = bad.

All well, follow-up was tiring and costly, bla bla.

Then it swelled again.

Of course I expected it to return, after all the doctor did say that although it was a successful removal, it does not guarantee that the problem will not arise again. I mean, even I know that. So I wasn’t too pissed about that, just wondering why it came back so fast.

So I went back to the doctor, and he poked around my ear, then he said, “Ah the problem was that some of the cyst walls were not removed. This was due to the fact that when you had your operation done, the area was swelling and it was difficult to remove everything. So you will have to take some medication, then wait for the swelling to subside, and come back again so I can perform ANOTHER operation on the back of your ear. This time, we’ll get EVERYTHING.”

And THAT pissed me off BIG time.

Why did he perform the operation the first time when the lump was swelling, when he knows that the chances to remove everything was maybe 70% compared to the chances of taking everything out when it was not swelling was 95%?

I made up the percentage, but yes that illustrated why I was SOOOOOOOO angry with him.

Bloody hell, the [nameless hospital] was not cheap. Even though insurance covered most of it, we still had to pay 10% and front the follow-up money. Plus the traveling to and fro the hospital was not easy, and the whole process was very time-consuming.

So SOoooo angry. Makes my blood boil just thinking about it. So I think I’ll stop.

Koko Krunch is great.

I really don’t want to jinx it, but right now I’m surfing at the speed of light.

Well, that is in comparison what Malaysians went through the whole day lah.

But it’s faster than my ordinary, non-earthquake-affected speed!

What gives?

Update: Fuck, I jinxed it.

Oops I did it again. I was enjoying the night breeze in the garden, when I saw this…

Snails copulating

Maybe nature is trying to tell me something.

Everyone stop getting excited when full speed is re-attained! Because it never lasts very long…those molluscs are chewing through the little cable that connects us to the “outside” - ;)

Sorry, forgot to add the real Q: Was it a sebaceous cyst, i.e. filled with goo, or solid mass cyst? Because, if so, I has one in exactly the same spot, and they truly are buggers to remove permanently. I hope they sort it out properly this time!

    Hi Suanie,

I had one of those non-malignant cyst at the back off my ear also. The doctor who treated me talked about getting it operated. I chickened out the last minute because it was too expensive. Anyway I actually squeeze the dam cyst myself(^_^). The swelling subsided and when I consulted the same doctor again, he told me that it was ok already. I think the doctor had mistakenly diagnosed my “Jerawat Batu” as a cyst…(^.^)

I’ve not removed any of the many cysts on my body. Doctor said I could choose not to, and I didn’t.

WOW! I hope your ear gets better. Sucks that Doctors haven’t got a clue about doing the right thing some times.
I still have a growth on my Aorta, which I sometimes wonder if the Doctors should have removed it … they said it won’t kill me, but I bet if they’re wrong it’ll be too late to change their minds. :-)

    Suan,

I had polyps growing beside my right ear drum when I was 16. The doc operated on it by using some sort of thin wire to slice it off. Then a week later on a follow-up, the doc had to do it all over again coz the dem thing grew back. Then a week later it was the same story again.

Got a little fed-up with that [XXX] hospital! Then I decided to go to University Hospital where I met an ENT specialist. I had to go for a full knocked-out operation where the good prof cut the dem polyp along with all its roots!

Problem solved and my hearing was restored. And the bill was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay cheaper than the [xxx] hospital! So my friend, sometimes you just have to have faith in gomen hospitals! They’re not that bad you know…

Intensecure: somehow your first comment reminded me of ‘pirates of the carribean 2′. davy jones. the cyst, erm don’t know what it was but it was hard, and generated pus.

puxape: i used to squeeze it out myself, not the actual cyst but the gooey part when the area swells up ‘cos it’s bloody painful and affects me for days n i just feel more grumpy and miserable than usual :D the swelling comes and goes depends on its mood one

spiller: i wasn’t even sure they were having sex :P they were just stuck together a long time. well i spent 10 mins watching them la.

dabs: thanks. i think he had a clue, just too impatient to perform an op and everything, didn’t stop to think of the proper procedures.

wan2: i thought that was what shells are supposed to do :D

    mad: no!!

SF: dono, i watched the snail on top keep trying to get to the snail below .. the gooey sticky parts

Dean: yeah needed to get the roots out. mine could have been great, with the cyst AND its walls taken out completely. but NOooooooooooo got some leftover cyst walls inside because DOCTOR DIDN”T WANT TO WAIT FOR SWELLING TO SUBSIDE @()@*#@)*#@)(#
