women hating women

Believe me, I didn’t like Oprah Winfrey very much. I thought she was an over-rated, over-paid, over-dramatic, over-exposed blah who capitalised on her being an abused black woman in the States earning shit loads of moolah not doing a very good show.

That was BEFORE I watched any of her shows, of course. Sometimes people have this weird thing of making up their minds about something even before they had watched/ seen/ experienced it. I am guilty of this prejudice as much as anyone else.

There is something unique about women. Why do we need men to bring us down? Well we don’t, seeing how we do a pretty good job on that ourselves.

If you are a female and reading this, think to yourself: how many times have you seen another woman and thought all sorts of derogatory things about her? She is well-dressed and poised: she must have been born with a silver spoon and therefore a bitch, OR she adopted the fake air about her and is definitely a bitch. Her tits are bigger than the average Asian woman: that is plastic surgery talking. She is skinny as a pole; bloody anorexic. She carries a genuine designer bag worth thousands of ringgit; she is mistress to some Datuk. Boss favouring her above others; yeah sure, she earned it ‘going down’.

Some people even make it a sport, a daily-life event around the water-cooler. Friends tell me that they feel more comfortable working with a bunch of guys than girls as former eliminate any requirements to compete for attention. Somehow guys don’t function like that? Well if you are female, you will understand me :)

So before we start blaming the other gender for bringing us down, women power and be gone with men and stop hitting us and stop raping us and all that, women all over the world, let alone in Malaysia should take a good look in the mirror first. Change your own perceptions before trying to change others.

Gotta go, Oprah Prime Time on air now ;)

It’s kind of amazing if you stop & think about it. Here is a black woman with, um, weight issues, who can’t sing or dance or play an instrument, doesn’t play sports, can’t do anything but talk, yet she is a cultural icon & one of the richest people in the world. How does that happen?

i did the whole judging thing in secondary school. needless to say, i wasn’t very popular.

and oprah winfrey is my hero. i’ve been watching her shows since forever and she’s just an inspiring woman. i liked her better when she did more investigative stories and covered current issues that didn’t just involve women. the whole shift towards lifestyle features and celebrity interviews has turned me off her shows.

but then, she’s 50. she’s been doing the show for as long as i’ve lived. she can bloody well do whatever she wants on her show.

    BUT IT’S TRUE!

that’s not true!! when i was 21, i had tits bigger than the average asian woman too.. without plastic surgery. then, i grew up and grew sideways, boobs stayed the same, then i lost weight, and first to go was the boobies. kinda depressing. then i became an average asian woman lor.. but sooner or later, my boobs will cease to become symbols of sexuality and become source of food. even more depressing..blah..
    thank god for nice bras

My office consist of 90% women and omgod you can feel the love. (NOT!) So do I really wanna judge? I’d be lying if I said I didn’t do so, I’m only human. Yes, I do prefer working with males.

‘Hath no fury like two scorned bitches in a derogatory battle’

    Brrr..shivers me timbers. :P

Oprah’s greatest asset is her empathy, her ability to touch hearts. She’s real and unpretentious. This is a rare quality in this day and age.

Hey wait a minute: yes, women do put each other down and resort to tearing each other apart behind each other’s backs, and yes, we should address this and do something about it, but we also have to ask ourselves WHY we do this: we do it because societies and cultures breed an environment of competitivity between women. So much emphasis is put on us to look good and be sexy that we must seek comparisons by whom we can measure ourselves by: eg. I’m sexier than her because my boobs are at least real and not fake - or I’m more attractive than her because I’m thinner etc. etc. Men have been set up for women as the most desirable thing to attain, and so the result is a perpetual competition with each other to be the Man’s choice. This is where cultures of bitching originate.

mad: well, when you put it that way…

lishun: i like oprah, but sometimes she can be a tad annoying on some stuff. like forcing some dude to apologise and think her way, which is not always the best way, and defies the purpose because the dude didn’t actually want to think that way, but then he was on international telly. oh well, just something recent i watched lah.

Chen: no meh? I wouldn’t call that issues though. It’s just her.

    FA: :P

LT: haha source of food hahahaa

Dee: i feel you woman :P

spiller: no wonder she didn’t get invited :P

skay: oO you doing the campaign thing? why do i feel like i am the only one doing it? maybe i am… :(

thesnark: do tell next time :D

anttyK: yeah but what about me? :D

Jenny: I don’t seem to have that problem though, so I can tell you that it is a problem created by the perception of females :D

    Queendrey: goddess?

    kim: i feel u too :D

Some of these remarks were pretty depressing to read: Suanie, your original blog was about empowering women, but everything almost everyone here has said about women is negative.
    Sad.

I hate to admit it but I often watch Operah on TV now. Something about watching people getting their problems solved live.

  17. Suanie, 28. November 2006, 11:20

Jenny: to empower anyone - men, women or children, you need to empower yourself first. that was my point :)

Adam: i’ve always wanted to watch jerry springer
