in search of reese’s peanut butter cups

A few years ago my sister went to the States. When she came back, she got me some Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups which I thought was the greatest thing, EVAR!

Then I found out that such a great thing like Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups are unfortunately not available in Malaysia.

THE TRAGEDYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh well, I got over it, I mean it’d been more than 6 or more years. Besides I don’t really crave for chocolate… much.

Then KY went and blogged about it, memories returned and I craved for the damn thing for a few days, and finally decided to take matters into my own hands.

I decided to make a trip to Singapore.

After all, it was the Raya holidays, I have one week off, so why not? Singapore has a large expat community, they are jolly good friends with the USA, surely they would stock the best-selling candy in the States in abundance! No-brainer, right?

Well… allow me to save you time, money and effort by telling you that you won’t have such luck at Singapore’s Marketplace (both Paragon and City Hall), Cold Storage (Takashimaya), Vivo Mart and Candy Empire (Vivo City).

I was about to give up in despair when Pinky nudged me to have a quick browse at The Cocoa Trees at Suntec City.

The Cocoa Trees candy shop

Browse browse browse… and lo and behold!!!

Reese's peanut butter cups at last

Sure, it’s only the miniatures, sure it’s S$6.30 per 85g pack… but when you find something that defines the purpose of life, you shouldn’t be picky at all.

I was of course, ecstatic :D

Even Rich, a non-chocolate lover, loved it :D

Well I am happy, for now. But my happiness will not last very long (when my limited supply runs out :( ) So if any of you would like to donate to keep this blog OWNER running, please consider sending me lots and lots of Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, especially if you are in the States. For contact details, please e-mail me :D

What good is globalization when you can’t even get candy that we hand out by the fistfuls to all the little kiddies on Halloween. E-mail me your address and I’ll ship you some. And not the sgar-free kind.

Those are tiny - we call them “Reese Miniatures” over here. However, I’ll bet they’re damn good - Reese PBCs are one of my vices as well!

The greatest thing EVAH - “Reese Bites” (http://www.hersheys.com/products/details/bites.asp). [drool] I’m hooked!

    Cheers,

    Ted

  12. Min, 25. October 2006, 18:09

A friend from KL mentioned that they have it in KLCC from time to time, should be at the supermarket. Why don’t you check it out?

I always have some in my fridge, replenished weekly!

    Best Wishes!

  13. sooyin, 25. October 2006, 20:11

    Another Reese lover, eh? =)

Min is right, they have it at KLCC but it gets sold out pretty fast. The stall is at the concourse level near Rotiboy/the LRT entrance-exit.

  14. iblogtogod, 25. October 2006, 21:17

U sure they have it in KLCC? I used to work in KLCC but never came across Reesers.

    Wahai Saudari Suanie,

    1. Get your seefat to 1U Old Wing.
    2. Proceed to the underground/LG level.
    3. Sprint to the tunnel that link to the new Wing.
    4. There should be only 1 chocolate specialty shop on your left and it is on the same row with Roti Boy, Osim, Lo Hong Ka etc. If you’ve reach the Pets Wonderland, you’ve gone too far.
    5. Once you enter the shop, make an immediate left and stop once you reach the second shelf.
    6. Voila.
    7. Selamat Hari Raya.

p/s: Maaf bebanyak pasal gua lupa nama kedai tu. Dah mula nyanyuk la katakan. =)

    Salam,
    Aku adalah Jamil Bond.

    ahseng: har? don’t la liddat…. :P

Min: it’s a bit of an odd thing, come to think of it. when you are in KL, you can’t be bothered to look for it that much, always assuming that it’s not avaialble in kl, partly because you have no time to search for it. but in another country, you have all the time in the world and do this kind of things. i guess that’s why lor :D

sooyin: i *think* i know where that is, thanks :D

iblogtogod: now you see it now you don’t lor

    James: Indeed

Vagus: ok, will haunt you ;)

stupe: did u search the whole building? :D

[...] We then went to the city centre to begin an exhaustive search for Reese’s peanut butter cups. Gave up, had a break at Starbucks, then Pinky had to tend to a prior engagement. I asked my cousin who is studying in Singapore if she wanted to meet up. She said yes, and we had dinner at Bugis. [...]

You can get the Reese Miniatures (Sugar Free) at the KLIA Choc n Shop (right before baggage claims) for RM11.90. Just got some myself on the way back.

  28. Giant Sotong, 30. October 2006, 22:02

It’s confirmed - 1U’s Cocoa Trees does sell them (one small bag = RM14.90). However, the salesgirl did say that stock replenishment was uncertain.

You can find Reeses cups at Ampang Grocers most of the time. Be careful, some of the bags haven’t been stored well so they have melted and then re-solidified, which makes the chocolate go all waxy and gross. Just feel it, and if the cups inside the bag don’t feel like they’re shaped properly, they’ve probably been melted at one point during shipping or storage.

Ampang Grocers is a small shop in Persiaran Ampang (near Ampang point, but on the town side of MRR2). Despite its size, when it comes to foreign treats (particularly American), it makes all the other shops in KL (I’m talking to YOU, Mister Hock Choon) look like roadside maruku vendors. Biggest and best breakfast cereal collection this side of Seinfeld.
