sometimes you don’t really need astro max
Astro has some seriously kick-ass advertisements, the more recent ones are the ads on Astro Max, like why you need a PVR (personal video recorder) etc.
One of the Astro Max ads was about this housewife who loves watching Chinese drama series. You know how these soppy series go; they drag on for a long time, at a minimum of 20 episodes for each title.
One day the housewife finally had some time to catch up with her favourite TV show, and was laughing at some hillarious parts. Then suddenly her son jumped onto the couch, took the TV remote and switch the channel to sports.
She looked damn sad.
Another time, the housewife was cooking in the kitchen, and peeking at the TV through some hole in the wall or something. Then suddenly her daughter jumped onto the couch, took the TV remote and switch the channel to Channel V.
The housewife looked damn sad.
The husband saw all this, and was damn sad also, and the next day surprised his wife with Astro Max. The housewife of course was damn happy. And then there was family harmony la da bi da la.
Now…
If this was a real life situation, then I’d say the husband got damn sad for the wrong reasons.
Instead of buying the Astro Max, he should have:
1) Scolded his children damn kau teruk because they so biadap
2) Scolded his children damn kau teruk some more because they so unfilial
3) Scolded his children damn kau teruk another time because they don’t care about other people’s feelings
4) Scolded his wife for not scolding the children there and then
5) Scolded himself for letting things get this far.

Oh yeah I was thinking the same too. Damn stupid. I thought it was an ad about filial piety or something along those lines and when the Astro Max thingy came out at the end I was like WTF MAN…
Although, in my book, instead of scolding the children, it would have been a 5 finger palm print on the side of their faces.
I don’t have a chance to catch Malaysian ads as i don’t subscribe to Astro nor watch any of the Malaysian channels. Astro Max is a hopeless product. There are many more superior DVR products out on the market, but we are forced to take Astro Max. DVR has been used in many other countries for a long time. But i guess it is better to have Astro max than without a DVR in Malaysia. Ananda sux. Maxis sux. Astro sux. Magnum sux.

the one with the indian guy in it and his “i have time” tagline was so much better.

I like the one with the Indian guy watching basically everything on Astro. It was quite funny to see him discuss all sorts of TV shows with his collegues and yelling “I’ve got time!!” in several different languages.
But seriously, doesn’t pesky brats act like that nowadays?? They hog the TV, they hog the PC, they hog every fucking bloody thing. I just think that the ad did make sense for a lot of household with more than 2 kids.
get 2 astro… hubby watch football upstairs, i watch csi/discovery/natgeo/insp barnaby downstairs. he upstairs because, he dont let me bring food into the room. lagi best i hog all the sofas and the massage chair with my milo 100plus papaya chips biscuits asam… get 2 astro.

Fat4: well Astro is not bad, just that the ‘best effortÂ’ service thing pisses me off because as we all know, once it rains, you cannot watch Astro anymore… so itÂ’s damn frustrating when you are in the middle of a great show, or a live sports event… and suddenly ‘Service currently not availableÂ’… They have damn good advertisings though, heart tugging and all that stuff. Better PVR? You wait lah, sure got one

don’t really need astro max la, with the amount of repeats they are showing on all the channel, it’s almost redundant to record anything.
by the way, i watched the last week’s fear factor like 3 times, each time it was a different segment/stunts! it’s as good as the show being recorded!

reasonly i had an offer from astro, having astro max for free..it’s 3rd decoder…of course. that’s why they offer me (they wanna get more money ) … but 1 thing i don’t like is ..sometime..if em swith to display the movie then back to normal channel.. it’s goes to silence.%$#@…..I faced it 3 times already….it is not really good stuff….
