video killed the radio star
Topic has not much to do with this post. Just a tune I’ve been humming to myself for an hour.
I was watching the news on TV the other day, TV3’s Berita Utama to be precise. And right there in between the two newscasters, was a Jawi word, and underneath that was the word ‘Jihad’.
Okay…
Any Muslim friends would like to explain the relevance of ‘Jihad’ and Berita Utama?
I am not taking the piss (why should I?). I am just extremely curious to know what the prime news has to do with ‘jihad’. Since I am too lazy to write to TV3 about it, and too impatient to wait for an answer, I rely on you O my knowledgeable readers to educate me on this weird connection (at least it’s weird to me).
After some time they showed an old, blind woman living in Sabah with her son who makes RM12 a day and has to support her/family/himself and it was all very pitiful and some politician members visited them and gave them some goodies and if the generous public is so inclined please donate some money to the poor suffering family.
Except that Val and I spotted a hi-fi stereo sitting nicely beside their nice TV in their living room.
…
I think I should just stick to getting my news on-line la. Visuals, most of the time just piss me off. Not good for my tolerance level.

video killed the radio star – first song ever played on MTV
LMAO. That politician visit was probably just a publicity gimmick then
Good on ya for spotting the luxuries that the family have.
They are probably experimenting with subliminal messages in broadcasting.
Don’t be surprised.
eh! i thought you were trying to built up tolerance level wan AAHAHhaHAHAHaHa.
I didn’t exactly get what you mean as i didn’t really catch that part yesterday.
But throughout the ramadhan month, Buletin Utama did this one segment called “Jihad” which so far told stories of other ppl sacrificing in helping the less fortunate, or other people living their everyday life is such hardship. stuff like that.
this is kinda weird but i’m actually being optimistic for once.
what if the hi-fi and tv were donations?
i hate that freakin tv show. they milk people’s misery for all to see all in the name of charity lah konon. i can just see the cameraman/ journalist provoking these pitiful people to get them to cry on camera and shit. benci
Hiyar, no different than those sewage drain members of parliament. Wait, it is those people that elect them, what do you expect?
dude.. they might have got it from somone who is kind enuff to donate… or perhaps got it from someone like me.. suka-suka change hifi tho the old one works just as well, except that the tape is not working no more.. the CD not working no more etc… do not be so quick to judge from visuals alone. Such a tough job, this thing called journalism, also the cameraman also one kind la… PEACE SISTA
I dunno, but where I’m from if you use the J-word, then you get paid a visit by men in black suits. And we’re trying to export democracy to other countries! Hey, I could use a new TV and stereo.
Jihad in the very simple sense meant sacrifice.
Jihad in the extremist sense is all about dying for the religion to reach matyrdom.
For example, a friend wanted to quit smoking.
And he say, if he succeeded in doing so, he will give his one month wages to the orphanage.
that one month wage is his jihad.
and by the way, he ended up managing to quit for good! so, that’s his own way of Jihad!
spiller: donÂ’t know, ‘cos the area looks a bit rural… but again we have a lot of illegal satellite stuff going on
KY: master of trivia
Ray: of course itÂ’s a gimmick la… everyone has an agenda. itÂ’s good though if they highlight the plights of those who live in poverty, just that I feel some other people would be more deserving.
Shadowfox: conspiracy-nyer
FA: building what…
sumwan: it wasnÂ’t yesterday I think… a few days ago. Ahh now that you explained the segment thing, then it makes sense lah.
Chen: then I may have errred in my initial judgment
but electricity bill also expensive what. WouldnÂ’t the money be better spent in more useful everyday things?
delia: kesian a bit also lah, she was really blind, but itÂ’s all a bit like larry king
moo_t: har?? a bit brain dead today, whatÂ’s the relation ar?
steven11: like I said, itÂ’s good to highlight those suffering from poverty. but maybe just hide the electronic stuff away when the camera man is there lah…
mad: mostly ignorance on the J word I suppose. though i myself do not really know the true meaning, because different people use it differently… but I know that itÂ’s not a bad/evil word to begin with… but I was wondering why the TV stationÂ’s prime news is showing the word in the background, because I wasnÂ’t aware of the relevance in their show. ‘sumwanÂ’ just explained it though.
stupe: ahh there you go then. itÂ’s all good.
Stupe,
Jihad meams struggle lah…
oh yeah that’s true.
but i thought of yet another possibility.
you know how some poor and/or eccentric people pick up garbage people throw out and then bring them home because they look nice hence use as deco……….
Berita Utama or Buletin Utama?
I once saw this presenter of [insert tv station here] wonderful caliber presenting the death toll of a collision of a train, while smiling happily away as if she was announcing the Grammy awards. TV, ah, you got to love it!
Must be tough for you to lay out contrasting thoughts everyday right ? To which audience ? diff strokes 4 diff folks ?
Such is colourful malaysia, multiracial and peaceful. poor women 12rm a day feed 8 kids.
state assemblyman builds multimillion castle with land robbed from poor squatters, with no approval. fine rm5000 ?
Big shot dailies fire blanks about haze and LKY? Academic resigns cannot agree with gov stats. rampant corruption. ramadan bazaar ( in fasting i mean feasting month). hypocricy ? of course. what can we do ?

anttyk: think i better google/wiki first…
Chen: hmmm… less likely than someone donating it lahh!!!
Kuzco: it’s something or the other, don’t really care

and some parties are not exactly as evil as some people would like you to think
actually the only thing i’m rather worried now is crime. seems to be on the rise and rising steadily
Alah, like you dunno TV3 one, always wanting to appear caring and stuffs. Like that’Bersamamu’ show, is it a requirement for the poor ones to cry behind the camera ?
Tak payah sebenarnye, u nak donate, u just donate..
And that case is one in a million families still living in hardcore poverty in rural areas of Malaysia. what about the rest? The politician’s one-time donation won’t help much. Should figure out a long-term plan to abolish poverty ler. sigh…
Raizzen: never watched that.. but some chinese shows also like to make ppl cry one.. not that I go and watch la, but sometimes when surfing tv..
Yvonne: that’s part of my point; there are worse cases out there, who don’t even live in a house with a proper roof to speak off.
