me want to be a lean machine: day 1

Right, I am embarking on a project titled above. I had thought of ‘fat’ instead of ‘weight’ since you are supposed to be losing the former not the latter etc etc (ST can explain it better), but ‘lose the fucking fat’ does not sound as good as ‘lose the fucking weight’.

(KY:i left a comment
me: lean? hmm elaborate lean?
KY: yah, lean is less fat ma. like this product called lean crusine, tv dinner actually, with low fat
me: ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
KY: “lose” is like “do not”. a negative word
me: how to use lean as project name?
KY: “me wanna be a lean machine”. might be a good title)

Truth to be told, I don’t know how long I will be able to keep this up. My strategy is simple — cut down my food rations. Unfortunately I am a food lover, I love food, food excites me, the more the merrier, more than that even better. Beer is dessert. I love desserts.

But I realise that I have a HUGE problem. Having the extra fat makes me sluggish, and overall it brings down my morale. It makes me feel unattractive, undesirable etc. It didn’t bother me before, but now that I am older, I realise that I have to do something about my body image, overall image. I could be in possession of the best personality in the world, but unless my virtue-ful aura has a strong 5-mile radius, you can’t really tell just by looking at me, can you?

Whoever said that looks don’t matter, lied.

Whoever said that looks don’t matter much, lied too.

Looks matter. Period. Once you can fit into your clothes (’cos no money to buy new ones), you feel more comfortable, your confidence level goes up, only THEN the great personality comes into play. Or the other way around. Whatever that works.

I don’t want to look like a stick-thin starved skinny bitch. Erm, that would probably never happen anyway, and I am glad. ‘Cos that is not healthy. Ideally, I want to look like… erm someone with curves. I like curves. Curves are hot. I used to have curves. Now I am just a blimp.

And I want to change that. I am tired of looking like a blimp. Clothes, especially the ones my current size are not cheap in Malaysia.

Neither are those diet plans. K should know, but it’s working for her. I don’t have that kinda money (even if I did, I’d splurge it all on food and beer!!! bwahahhaha!!! okay wrong attitude, jk). I don’t want to eat meat all the time. I don’t fancy being stuck in the toilet for ages. I’ll think about exercising. That’s extreme mental acrobatics, you know…

What I can do is, cut down my food rations. I believe it will help a lot. This blog obviously will be my log, so I have to be honest with myself.

Bla bla bla, this is a spur of the moment thing, though due for a long time I think. Maybe the affirmations worked; I was conscious of what I ate the entire day. Normally I wouldn’t have a clue. So here we go.

Breakfast: small bowl of porridge with egg and vege
Lunch: 2 spoons of rice, big serving of two types of green vege, 5-6 small pieces of chicken. Or pork, don’t really know what it was.
Tea: 3 Nescafe, 1 Coke, 3.5 spoons of nasi lemak
Dinner: 3 spoons of rice, one whole side of a steamed pomfret, 3 medium pieces of lean meat, a few pieces of fried tofu

Right. Wish me luck. Nites.

    have to be positive, suan.

lose the fat sounds bad, lose the weight sounds slightly better, but “to be lean” is the positive way to go, k?

    TO BE LEAN.

  2. KY, 15. September 2006, 0:08

awesome, i was just stealing idea from your previous post anyway. :D

  3. mad, 15. September 2006, 0:27

“Tea: 3 Nescafe, 1 Coke, 3.5 spoons of nasi lemak”

There’s your nemesis right there, Suanie. The COKE. Coke is evil.

  4. kimberlycun, 15. September 2006, 0:32

you can do it, woman! will get u the macadamias w/o flavourings and fat. mwahs

  5. Suanie, 15. September 2006, 0:36

KY: heh didn’t really think about that… too sleepy

mad: with every sip my guilt increased. sort of semi-addicted to gassy drinks (soda to you). will strive to find diet coke etc.

kim: thanksssssssss! mwahhhh have a good trip!

  6. bulat, 15. September 2006, 0:53

soft drinks = 1 hour of running to burn it all out
    30 roasted peanuts = 1990 calories (daily calories = 1200-1500 calories)

thought i will scare you just a lil: D

If you need someone with a horse whip, you can always add me on MSN to torture and taunt you.

    Kekekeke.

  8. ShadowFox, 15. September 2006, 2:13

Oh btw, softdrinks are not as bad as beers.

Yes you got that right, your beer days are OVER.

Or else you can never kiss your belly or chunky butt goodbye.

  9. scorkes, 15. September 2006, 8:52

Yep… don’t forget like Daily Muscle used to say, you didn’t pack on the pounds overnight so don’t strive to lose weight in a jiffy…

Gradual weight loss is more permanent then overnight fixes.

Coke is a killer… so much calories for almost no nutrition. Diet Coke better .. 1 calorie only. :)

  10. Dean, 15. September 2006, 9:18

3.5 spoons of nasi lemak? I hope what I call a senduk is not what you call a spoon. :p

Agree that Coke is a real killer. I’ve not touched any soda for the past 2 years! It’ll do your body some good. Seriously, sodas will clog up your chi meridians and beer is equally wicked. Just cut down…

Hey, why don’t you put up a graph of your weight starting from today as Day 1. Of course, hide the numbers la, we only want to see the declining trend. Up to the challenge?

  11. LT, 15. September 2006, 9:23

  14. steveneleven, 15. September 2006, 10:35

wow! congrats on your official kick-off on this journey to a healthier life-style! Anyhow think abt different strategies in your diet too, perhaps try eating small portions 5 times a day helps(of course still at a deficit of 500 calories from your usual as rule) as this promotes an elevated metobolism thruout the day which helps YES! to burn more energy/calories. Also, cut off/down rice, if u can totally cut off sugar, like coke, any soda, even 3-1 coffee(I drink mine black, and baby it taste out of this world) so to replace rice and white bread(which is bad) go heavy on vege, fruits and nuts instead. I promise you, you will see results in a week(but it could be just water fo the 1st week) ALso consider this as a cut down on your medical expenses, having diabetes ain’t funny, that is why I suggested cut off entirely teh tariks and such. BEER?” Sure! but only on friday perhaps, and never right after a dinner, coz then your body will burn beer(easy access for body to convert it into energy) and not food, and where does all that excess food end up? yes I think u know the answer. I dunno why I am excited for u, I feel so gay now.. DAMN

scorkes needs to drink more REGULAR coke.

  17. Lil' Patchee, 15. September 2006, 11:48

Try to reduce your intake on carbo food (i.e. rice). And I heard the best way is to eat most for breakfast, lesser for lunch, and even lesser for dinner, not the other way round. Good luck! :)

  18. Alvin, 15. September 2006, 11:55

Hey hey… I agree… stop soda… but keep going with the beer. Coz we haven’t have chance to drink together yet. :P

Hey, there was this diet formula that some famous nutritionist recommended and famous thru out US and UK. I don’t know his name, but I heard his formula has basically changed all the menu in the restaurants in New York.

I’m not 100% sure of how it works or what the formula is, but this is how much I know.

Lunch : Eat all carbo stuffs. No meat, basically no protein stuff.

Dinner : Eat as much protein as you want, but no carbo.

Maybe someone looking at your blog might know this guy’s name and point you to a book. You can try google it.

All the best, see you tonight at Paddington Pancakes. :P
    Muahahaha…

Lil’Patchee, you must be refering to “Breakfast like a king, dinner like a beggar”

  20. Chen, 15. September 2006, 12:37

i tried using my blog as a log to motivate myself, TWICE i think. tak jadi. :( but i hope you’ll have wayyy much more willpower than i do. ADD OIL! uhm, olive oil that is. :D

oh yeah, for brekkie right, non-extra-sugaring cereal plus low-fat milk plus unsalted nuts plus raisins is actually quite filling. ^_^

  21. Peter, 15. September 2006, 12:48

Eat like me and you will be lean in no time.

  22. moo_t, 15. September 2006, 13:52

Trust me, those kinda of food rationing will not works. You body will cry for more calories since already get use to it. And not to forget the sudden reduced calories will make you depress(and your brain will make you eat more to counter the depression).

Cut it down proportionally. The most effective step : Avoid supper. If you can’t, then don’t order any sugar drinks(teh tarik, soft drink, fruid juice) during supper.

tricks to fill up stomach : pour one spoon of cod liver oil (not those emulsifier form) to the porridge, drip few drops of sesame oil to counter the cod liver smell.

  23. a-non-e-mouse, 15. September 2006, 15:41

    My dearest Suanie,

You call that a diet? I am not on a diet and I eat less than that.

Breakfast: small bowl of porridge with egg and vege

PORRIDGE WITH EGG FOR BREAKFAST? TRY 2 SLICES OF TOAST INSTEAD! THATS A DIET!

Lunch: 2 spoons of rice, big serving of two types of green vege, 5-6 small pieces of chicken. Or pork, don’t really know what it was.

    5-6 PIECES OF PORK???

Tea: 3 Nescafe, 1 Coke, 3.5 spoons of nasi lemak

3 NECAFES AND 1 COKE???????? COKE?????? 1 COKE A DAY???

Dinner: 3 spoons of rice, one whole side of a steamed pomfret, 3 medium pieces of lean meat, a few pieces of fried tofu

    CHICKEN AND FISH??? HOLY CRAP.

This begs the question, how much did you eat before??? I eat less than that every day and I am not losing weight. I don’t have to lose weight but that is not my point.

Something tells me this diet isn’t going to work. But good luck anyway.

    I love you.

  24. in, 15. September 2006, 15:42

Its the little things…..they are always the biggest culprits. NO fizzy drinks (that includes Diet Coke etc), and no nescafe tarik, teh tarik and stuff. Just drink Limau O’Ais when you go to the mamak stalls and chinese tea at the restaurants and kopitiams. No late suppers. Another tip is NO SNACKING! Only eat during breakfast, lunch and dinner.
And finally, did you know that a mug of beer is equivalent to eating one whole steak (in calories)!! So if you drink 3 mugs, its like eating 3 steaks….gasp!

  27. Dean, 15. September 2006, 16:13

    Suanie,

See? Everyone has got contradicting advice. Which one to follow? Too confusing? Go back to status quo? It’s Friday nite, let’s have a beer! (root beer for me!)

    julianME,

Chi, as in tai chi. Meridians = the electrical wirings (or tiny chemical channels) along your body

  28. Dabido(Teflon), 15. September 2006, 18:12

I’m already a lean mean machine … I just suppress it beneath a few layers of fat so other guys have a chance with the girls! ;-)

  31. Suertes, 16. September 2006, 1:25

Take a close look at competitve walkers. Notice how skinny they are? And they don’t have to run to get that skinny. You can walk. So walk everywhere. Oh, and take the bus if you really must - I grew noticeably fatter from the time I got a car HAHA.

  32. Suanie, 16. September 2006, 1:28

    VaL: aight!

Suertes: well true that. after my car, i stopped walking lots (obvs) and started gaining the pounds. wait i dig out some photos of me last yr next time

  33. ShadowFox, 16. September 2006, 5:19

I don’t own a car, that explains why I am still thin at over 30. :-D

Yes, I walk a lot…. a hell lot more than most people.

    wat??????? no beer????

    thats the end of life!

  37. Otto, 17. September 2006, 19:15

When possible, eat a balanced diet. Lots of vegetables and one portion of meat (for me, that constitute the size of my clenched fist).

Carbo is tricky. Breakfast I eat like a whale. Lunch with a small portion of rice/pasta/noddle (size of a clenched fist). Dinner hardly any carbo.

Suppers only for nights when I’ve gone out drinking like a fish. I don’t think a small bowl of noddles would do as much damage as the 6 glasses of vodka I have on drinking nights.

Thankfully I am not too fond of sweet stuff, so giving that up was rather natural.

I never believe in denying myself of what my heart desires to eat. So when I have strong urges to eat something, I would eat it. No use trying to battle your will when your heart is pumping for the next fried chicken.

Where possible, I take a 10 minute walk after each meal. Thus far, this arrangement has been doing me some good. Not been ill nor have I gained weight =)

All the best, Suan!! It’s hard the first 2 weeks when your stomach is shrinking but when it has adjusted to its new smaller size, you would be absolutely fine.

  38. Suanie, 18. September 2006, 23:57

praveen: mv is a bit too far from where i’m at. but yes i intend to join a gym :D

    titoki: no coffeee? DIEEEeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

ahseng: i am sad too :( but what’s got to be done, got to be done :( :(

Otto: thanks! it’s not going to be easy i believe, but since i really want this, i shouldn’t lack motivation :D

  39. As Suanie Sees It - me wants to be a lean machine: day 7 (Pingback), 20. September 2006, 9:49

[...] It’s been one week since I decided to make a change about my body image. It’s been 5 days since I’m on the Atkins. So far, so good. Still standing, not woozy. [...]
