actorlympics/ douglas lim/ bill clinton/ lainie

My sister and I caught Actorlympics earlier, it was my second Actorlympics show since… erm my first Actorlympics show?

This language thing is so hard.

Afdlin Shauki, Douglas Lim, Reza, Joanna Bessey and one Actorlympic virgin whose name I can’t recall at the moment were darn brilliant, fantastic and pain-inducing — I laughed too much that I wanted to pee and laugh some more at the same time. Very painful. I don’t recommend it, so remember to empty your bladder prior to watching the show.

Had a drink with Douglas after the show, ‘cos he’s friends with my sister and they had lots to talk about etc etc. Found out that he will be in a Gavin Yap play, in Clive Barker’s Frankenstein In Love. I am not familiar with the storyline but since it’s Gavin Yap, I know it’s going to be disturbing. If you don’t believe me, check out this synopsis I copied from the KLPac site:

Inspired by Mary Shelly’s classic horror story, Frankenstein in Love is acclaimed horror writer Clive Barker’s updated interpretation of the terrifying tale.

It is the last few days of the world. Human life has become meaningless as mass genocide and sickness spread throughout the land. Revolutionaries loot and pillage for answers, the faithless betray the faithful, the dead refuse to die and one name stands out amidst the screams… Frankenstein.

A sprawling collection of variations on the idea of human vivisection and reconstruction set in a grim, Gothic world of putrefaction. An unlikely place for love to emerge…but it does, forming a bizarre, tragic love triangle between the creator and his creations.

Quite a reputation the young director is getting, eh?

Other familiar faces in the play are Patrick Teoh, Rashid Salleh, Melissa Maureen, Reza, Mano Maniam and U-En. OMG U-EN!!! That’s it, my ticket’s booked :D

The play begins 27th October and ends 3rd November. No, I’m not getting paid to promote it :)

Here’s an obligatory camwhore photo.

Suanie with Douglas Lim

That’s right, I have weird fingers.

You’d think twice now before messing with me.

Else I’d finger you.

And that would hurt.

Bwaha. Bwahahaha. Bwahahahahahahahaha!!!!!

Saw midnite lily at Actorlympics, found out that she is headed for Singapore, good luck mate :D

Sniff.

Been reading Bill Clinton’s autobiography My Life since forever… or one and a half weeks but I can’t even get past a quarter of the book. And I’m a pretty fast reader, but this one kinda got me. Maybe ‘cos I don’t really understand the intricates of American politics… heck, I don’t understand the intricates of Malaysian politics… what’s my point again?

Riveting stuff though, just taking me a long while. Maybe I should ditch it for a bit and read some pointless short stories or something. Or Cleo. That stuff is pretty much brain-dead zone.

I like Lainie-style posts.

ditto to FA. not just cause she’s FA (:P), but seriously, this whole business of ‘wanting to keep the theatre standards up to par and not polluting it with malaysian elements ie manglish’ is starting to sound like an english stiff prick with a broomstick up his arse. whatever happened to creativity? a reproduction of someone else’s play, no matter how brilliant, is still merely a regurgitation of someone else’s fart at the end of the day.

    uh oh, i think i’m pms-ing.

  6. Cheneille, 8. September 2006, 18:52

  7. Cheneille, 8. September 2006, 19:28

    oh shit.

referring to my first comment, what i meant was not that bastardizing high class english plays should be condoned, but that our theatres should be producing our own plays. yah.

sorry for spamming suanie, i need to control my surges of afterthoughts. :P pai seh.

Suanie’s latest quote - I did not have sexual relations with that book!

Kitten - If you’re really worried about missingActorlympic, just go visit Warner Bros. Movie world. It’s not Actorlympics, but it has characters from Laughalympics! :-)

I don’t watch plays because I don’t like them and I think it’s so boh liao to waste 30++ ringgit on some silly wannabe actors who can’t act for nuts (else they would’ve been real actors on international TV elsewhere or some hollywood production) This must be some KL people’s thing.

30 ringgit can be spent on 3 good movies if you really wanna kill some real time.

Between Transformers 2007 movie and the rest of the combined average local plays? Forget it! No contest here! Light Our Darkest Hour !

I do that too! I love it when they cringe and go, ‘Eeeee!’ And they look in disbelief when my thumb bends 90 degrees (had to adapt during Physics class with that Law - the one where your fingers and thumb point in three directions. By right, thumb should be pointing up, but mine pointed back!) XD
