rantdom
Last weekend I was quite tulanified when the bakery dudes forgot to bake a cake that I’d ordered 3 days before. Even though they had a similar cake on display, I decided to lansi with them and purchased a cake elsewhere.
Then walking past the newsstand I saw the Weekend Mail with the headlines BLOG-WASH (from hogwash, geddit?). My tulanifiness increased as I pored over the first couple pages.
Exclusive survey reveals Malaysian bloggers talk bollocks!Guess what? Weblogs (or Blogs) in Malaysia are not viewed as credible sources of information.
This was the findings of a Weekend Mail survey that saw 66 per cent of the 100 respondents interviewed questioning the credibility of blogs as a source of information.
Fuwah, genius betul. Tell me something my stuffed penguin Wally doesn’t know.
Though I wonder if that’s a good thing or a bad thing. The good thing would be, those who partook in the survey had the good sense to filter the information — any information available anywhere, either the Web or elsewhere, and understand that generally, you cannot believe EVERYTHING that you read.
The bad thing would be, there are people who unfortunately lack the very capability to dissect information and make good use of their grey matter to judge for themselves what is right, what is wrong, and what you should and shouldn’t give more than two hoots about.
They are also known as dumb fucks.
And these people are living in MY country, breathing MY air — worse, they actually do go online, polluting the very cyberspace I leave my stamp on.
Those who called for bloggers to be monitored said blogs should only be used to share useful information, and not be an avenue to post exaggerated articles, or be a place to blow your own trumpet.
Here are some useful information.
By the way, I am great.
… and busy. You guys will just have to make do without my updates for a couple of days while I sort my shit out.

“They are also known as dumb fucks.”
Ahaha. Best. Seriouslylah, you have to wonder at the people who take blogs too seriously. What next, the government training RELA members to take down errant bloggers?
I am very thankful that, at least, in Malaysia we can pretty much say whatever we want in cyberspace. Imagine if you were staying in China. Now that sucks.
Well I basically think that generalizing all bloggers to be talking utter bollocks is a wee bit too unfair. I find certain blogs rather interesting in sharing their thoughts and views albeit OTT at times but certainly did knock some sense into us.
“Those who called for bloggers to be monitored said blogs should only be used to share useful information, and not be an avenue to post exaggerated articles, or be a place to blow your own trumpet.”
Share useful information? I wonder how do they view those what- I- had- for- breakfast and omg- he- left- me- I- am- goddamn- devastated- I’m- so- dying blogs. How would that be seen as sharing useful information?
I will not say that the majority of bloggers out there are creating crap blogs but IM really HO, I’m not that interested in reading your wimps about how devastated and helpless you are cos your gf left you and you’re dying to get her back. Really, those blogs are pointless and it’s growing like mushrooms after a heavy thunderstorm.
Blow your own trumpet? Well, correct me if I’m wrong but I thought bloggers have been invited to write up/ review some events and the main reason those organisers invited bloggers is to spread the propaganda about the whole hoo- haa they are creating or rather, help them spread their good cause and intention on their blogs. And now when we are stating our views on certain issues regarding the country, its government or whatsoever, it is seen as utter bollocks with no credibility?
Now are we blowing our own trumpets or blowing theirs? It seems like everybody blogs now and everybody call themselves a blogger. But to find an opinionated and informative blogger, it’s hard, looking at the quality of blogs these days. Shaolin Tiger once said that the quality of PPS pings are deteriorating cos it’s of no quality at all. What more do they want?
I am a blogger myself and I’m not saying that I post quality entries [i'm literally bitching abt other no quality blogs but I swear I'm not saying that I'm good. I'm just opinionated that way:D] but from what I’ve read from the excerpts, I feel that they are being too judgmental, at least in this case. Of the 66%, I don’t think half of them talks about World War 4 or the current economic status of M’sia.
And Weekend Mail has been featuring bloggers in their whatever centrespread, no? I don’t quite like the fact that popular bloggers are like celebrities now, I get dumbstruck and star struck at times when I see a popular blogger at certain events
and I find this thingy called blogging rather overrated.
Good grief, I sound so hypocritical :p but I definitely don’t like Malay Mail like I used to. Too tabloid- ish… attention whores. No offence to Malay Mail fans but yeah. It’s just too difficult to accept a national newspaper to feature too many gossips and articles with bad english. Problem: The use of lingos and urban language. Total absurdity I’d say.
If not credible, why NST create Monster blog? huh huh HUH!? Maybe you guys are not allowed to touch issues like race, politics and religion, but if bloggers are talking rubbish then why bother Monster- ing around? It’s only a blog. Why take it so seriously lah? Just my 2 cents. This is really long
btw, love reading your blog. Really~
btw kali 2, I take blogs, bloggers and blogging as a source of interest and treat it like a place to practice freedom of speech, with a limit to a certain extent, but of course. I’m not saying that I’m against what has been said by the gov authorities but if online media cannot be considered a credible source of news, don’t tell me that the mainstream media is. What abt Mr. Jeff Ooi’s entry abt The Star misqouting a reader?
In a way, I don’t think I see blogs as a source of news, let alone credible. I think we all know that whatever we see or hear online are just opinions and I bet bloggers are not coercing the public to just blindly accept what they said as to be true and credible. Really, if I were to say that “Citey NurHaleeza” is getting married to “Datuk Kays” cos of money and fame, who’s going to take me seriously? I may waver their perception and thoughts but after reading articles on the papers, who’s going to remember what I’ve said?
I don’t like “Datuk Kays” [ we know who is he la kan]. His son went to PCD’s concert with his gf and they came with a bodyguard. People were being shoved to the side and were asked to make way for them when the crowd was damn packed and they came in late. This you must believe cos ini kisah benar. Sumpah!
omfg, you’ve been dabido-ed.
Erna: I scare RELA…
anttyk: IF the review on the PPPA is amended the way some ppl would like it, then you have much to fear. Until then, blog on!
Waifon: wah that’s like a blog post by itself
Weekend Mail sememangnya tabloid-ish, sensationalist, they used to carry nice articles though.
Yes.. it was really long. Sorry
I used to like Sunday Mail a lot cos I dig their comic section. I like to laugh over Ruthie and One Big Happy comics
Why like that.. here I am bitching abt WM and their editor just sent me an email. Tak kena mengena with this la.
Dabido-ed? I know I know.. he writes long essay like comments too. My bad my bad
Da tok kids, pfft.
Rice Ya’Tame’s son brings a whole bunch of bodyguards to a friggin mall just because he wants to watch a movie, and then threatened to beat my fren and her (then) boyfriend up just because they accidentally knocked into his gf/wife?. My fren apologized profusely but that farker just kept abusing them with vulgar language, then made them step out the cinema, slapped my fren’s ex on the cheek, and called his BGs up.
Oh and the best part was he kept saying things like ‘you’re not educated like me!’ and ‘do you know who my father is?’. tiu. gofuckyourselflachaohaikia.
yeah! we bloggers tend to blow own trumpets a lot. But we still read them and we continue to trumpet
‘Exclusive survey reveals Malaysian bloggers talk bollocks!’
They needed a survey to figure that out?
And why pick in Malaysian bloggers. Nine out of ten blogs in the world talk bollocks and the rest talk testicles!
Also, they say 66% out of 100 people they surveyed. LIKE! Hello, that’s only 66 people! 100 people is hardly a reliable sample, and would be considered in any statistical group a bit of a bollocks of a survery.
Goes to prove that ten out of nine people know bollocks about statistics!
[And there are three groups of people in the world, those who can't count, and those who can! I am of course in the third group!]
But, of course a lot of intelligent information does get through … like personal opinions … and isn’t that what a lot of blogs are, reviews of movies, music etc, and telling people about events coming up and stuff … so what do they need monitoring unless someone wants to suppress personal opinioning and stop people meeting to see the latest Tempered Mental gig or stop them from organising a protest against Stupidity.
And Yes, Suan, you are great … and that’s my personal opinion and the stupid Weekend Mail shouldn’t try to suppress that point of view just because they think blogs should be monitored to remove such ‘personal’ thinking … and while they’re at it, they should remove all editorial from newspapers, because after all, it is also personal opinion, and as such obviously a load of bollocks!
So, I guess it probably isn’t FA’s birthday after all, becasue 66% of 100 people think that blogs are unreliable, and I’ve read quite a lot of blogs wishing FA a happy birthday, which it obviously can’t be because 66% percent of people think the information is bollocks. Guess those people are pure geniuses to be able to have pointed that out for us, cause some of us [not me, I live too far away], might have gone and bought her a present. But, those 66% of people are so well read and knowledgable that they know blogs are all bollocks and uninformed, unlike newspapers who never have to print retractions on page thirty for the front page story they got wrong the day before.

‘Dabido-ed? I know I know.. he writes long essay like comments too. My bad’
Get with the program
“Dabidoed” and “pulling a Dabido” are legitimate Blogger terms. It’s not bad to “pull a Dabido”, it just means you might not get read.
Dabido: My meaning of my bad means it’s not your fault that I might not get read cos I love writing long long comments. I just have a lot of opinions and feelings you know!*hysterical emo wail* Okay what, I read your extremely long comments too
Better to surpress it all in, might as well share the thoughts right? We are a caring lot
Malaysia’s Next Top Dabido. I win, hands down.
Waifon: it’s a great thing to be or to have dabido-ed, so treat it as an honour it is.
Dabs: so we are in perfect agreement that i am, great
It’s all a case of Freedom of Speech. Some day the government will get up (If it hasn’t already) and ban blogs saying they don’t provide the right info.
I mean we live in a democratic free world. Why should we not express our opinions?
Plus if we just needed reliable news, why wouldn’t we read 1000’s of websites that are providing them or watch the countless number of news channels.
Blogging is like another home, where you express your feelings without caring (or with) what anyone says about it. It’s also a great place to make friends.
I’ve got many friends blogging, so to all of this “Those who called for bloggers to be monitored said blogs should only be used to share useful information, and not be an avenue to post exaggerated articles, or be a place to blow your own trumpet.” I’ve only got one thing to say –
LET US LIVE OUR LIVES THE WAY WE WANT. We are all critising the mid-east for their dictatorship, sadly we ourselves are increasingly growing like them.
Let there be freedom of choice! Anyone in his/her right mind would know what he/she wants. He/she doesn’t need someone to babysit him/her.
P.S. I second Dabido, You’re great!
As a personal request change your photo. You look quite….bored.
