on leave

This is an update to let you guys and girls know, that there won’t be updates on this blog for a week or two.

Have fun.

Criminalise War, Stop World War 4 Logo

I didn’t realise that there was a World War 3, until the banner of the Perdana Global Peace Forum screamed ‘Criminalise War — Stop World War IV‘. Eh?? I am always the last to know.

Which may be a good thing because according to the speakers at the forum, we are all doomed to die a most horrible death, unless someone bitchslap that war-waging Bush and haul his sorry ass to rot on the deserted island of Repentance.

In case it isn’t obvious enough to you, I spent most of my productive hours yesterday at Putrajaya attending the second day of the Perdana Global Peace Forum 2006 because… come to think of it, I don’t really know why I was there. Oh yeah, TV Smith called and asked me to attend. If Trent asked me to fly to the US and sleep with him to prove that there is life after guys, I probably would.

Several other bloggers were invited to the closed-door panel session (half of them no-shows, why? Why?!??!?) and we had to register at the event and a hot chick handed to us media tags… Neat!

I bumped into an acquaintance earlier and after saying hi-what-not, asked him if he had a girlfriend (it’s the most standard and safest thing to ask any guy or girl you haven’t seen in yonks if they are in a relationship).

“I am getting married in September!” he beamed.

“Huh… didn’t you like, just started dating not long ago?”

“Yeah, one year actually, no use dating for 6 years before deciding to get married.”

I came back to the office and told my colleagues about it. One colleague said that a friend of hers met a guy online, talked to him via the net for a month, then met in real life and went out for five, and after that they were hitched. Now they have two kids.

It just is an extraordinary thing for me that people could get married so quickly and easily. Man, I don’t exactly know how long you have to be together to get married, but I put my minimum requirement at 2 years. It’s not a bad thing or anything to be married after a short while, it just seems a tad hasty to me.

Then again I have not met anyone I would want to spend an eternity with.

I have enough trouble looking for anyone who would want to spend 24 hours with me.

By the way congratulations to you! If you still read my blog, you would see this and I hope you don’t mind me being amazed and kolot, but damn we should have gone out :P

i love argentina, 6-0 w00t!!!

Have a good weekend!

buzzwords part two

This is something the touchy-feely whale-loving tree-hugging ohming peps would go out of their way to use; the word organic.

The past couple of years it seems that every Tom Dick Harry and Susan added this word to their vocabulary regardless the content of their speech.

To me, organic has always been associated with farming, fruits, vegetables, faeces — basically things to do with biology and the development of. Dictionary.com also defines it as ‘fundamental’, which we understand as being ‘elementary’, ‘core’, ‘foundation’, ‘essential’ etc.

Hence it is rather bewildering to hear someone referring to a movie project as having ‘come together organically’. Or an executive in the meeting board pitching his marketing ideas as an ‘organic process’.

I think of shrubs.

It is no longer cool to use the word ‘natural’ even though it is more appropriate to the context. In today’s business world of Starbucks-sipping gym-going younger hipper execs, you are not worth your designer salt if you cannot boom out words that make you look impressive and important, but ultimately meaning nothing to the old fogeys. Like ‘operationalise’ instead of ‘implement’, ‘pushback’ instead of ‘negative feedback’, ‘dialogue’ instead of ‘business meeting’ and ‘value-added’ instead of ‘extra features’.

My ex-editor would have slapped my head and asked, “what the hell are you talking about?”
