You're boycotting? Again?
Okay, everybody listen up! I'm setting up a bin collection for all those extra Carlsberg and Kjeldsens Butter Cookies that you have already bought but are now boycotting. I will take them to a safe place and burn them up so that you won't have to see them again. EVAH!
It's a lot of work for me but hey, I'm doing my part! On your part, please ensure that the beer bottles remain unopened. Once the gas escapes, somehow....er....the beer does not burn that well!

Beefstew - It's true that Kevin Smith got a lot of flack for using Alanis as God in Dogma. But I like the reponse some American's gave ...
'She not even American, she's a CANADIAN!!!!'

I thought that was a classic response. Only the US could possibly use that arguement as an apologetic for blasphemy.

There is nothing much happen when it comes to christianity becasue JC is a superstar. His Daddy is a superstar both popularised by Hollywood. Jokes and comics on them are like a lot.

The best thing so far by Hollywood is not something by Mel Gibson but Alanis Morrisette as God in 'Dogma'. Totally awesome!

So be careful when going to Toy R' Us ya...

<i>'You know, things that make being picked up by a Vogon ship sound extremely appealing.'</i>

Don't worry, with the way Richard branson is going, you'll be able to catch a flight on a Virgin ship soon.

<i>'It's like, plain and simple stupidity shamelessly quaking behind freedom of speech.'</i>

Freedom of speech is there for the intelligent and the stupid. [And the insensitive ... and a lot of other azdgectives].

<i>'Offensive cartoons on Christianity don't want to publish, offensive cartoons on Islam want to publish lah?'</i>

There are plenty of Anti-Christian cartoons around too. The difference is Christians don't riot over them ... not much ... but you can find them being tossed in at Christian Book/Record burnings ...

Compare the reaction of John Lennon saying the Beatles were 'Bigger than Jesus' compared to the Muslim reaction happening.

Instead of attacking the Cartoonist verbally for his insensitivity, or the Newspaper for it's insensitivity, they're attacking anything Danish ... it's actually a misdirection of their anger ...

As you've said, the correct reaction is to write letters, protest peacefully etc. That is what happens most of the time to most Anti-Christian and Anit-Jewish things.

It's a similar thing to what happened when that guy did the 'Piss Christ' photo that got displayed in Australia. [Photo of the artist pissing on Jesus if you missed it]. Two Christians smashed the glass and frame, but the art work was fixed and put back on display, and the two Christians got fined. The photo has been all over the world on display.

So, no hypocrisy is really being done here. If people are allowed to display pieces of work showing Christ being pissed on under 'Freedom of Speech', then other religions are going to have to accept that the 'Freedom of speech' will include things intolerant to their own religions.

<strong>the difference is that in Christianity the portrayal of prophets are 'allowed'. That is not the case in Islam. </strong>

Don't get me wrong though, personally, I think what you are saying is correct, but obviously the 'Piss Christ' work didn't hit the Malaysian papers the way it hit the Australian papers. But, if one form of intolerance is or is not going to be allowed, then the other one has to come under the same laws.

Where were these protestors when the 'Piss Christ' art was being shown? After all, even the Koran says Jesus was a prophet, so surely Christ being pissed on should have been offensive to them ... but they ignored it.

I know the US has both published the cartoons and also allowed the display of the 'Piss Christ', so at least they're not being hypocritical, they're just being insensitive.

I don't know if Denmark ever had the 'Piss Christ' on display at a gallery there, but if they did, then they are obviously following a 'Freedom of Speech' policy which allows intolerance towards other religions, but it will show they're not being hypocritical.

So, what do we do? All religions are up for a beating in some countries, and violent protests, burning things and killing people over it just makes those countries dig their heals in deeper over their 'Freedom of speech' issues.

Of course, we then come to the problem, that as soon as they restrict what can be said, then some religions will consider any critism or apologetic against them 'intolerance' and use the law to silence any critism no matter how true.

Where can we find that line Suanie? Where is it?
