dawn yang – blogging her way to instant fame
I did the collage above using film grain, ‘coz that’s what Dawn Yang is going to look like in the papers (read news article below).
The Great Swifty will be pleased that his object of fascination is headed for MTV-like greatness. Maybe he should get her to star in one of his independant films or something; nobody objects to obvious pretty-ful chicks.
I think it’s pretty hot that she got noticed via her blog (and looks, obviously) even though she’s a semi-socialite in Singapore and all that. I read her site from time to time, she seems pretty nice and non-malicious, plus the scholarship to the US should be some kind of indication that there’s a brain working somewhere.
Though I do agree with Mr. Miyagi’s thoughts on this being a gimmick (refer to article below), well no harm seeing where this leads to. MTV sucks, manufactured pop idols suck (looks like Dawn’s headed that way if she’s to hone her entertaining skills and the no-bf disclaimer) but she’s got brains so she’ll figure out her own path after the publicity. At least I hope so, would like to see her succeed.
Yeah I like her ‘cos she’s hot and if I had a hammer instead of a pipehole I would definitely invent all sorts of fantasies, with her in every scene of course.
Added: I just realised that her name quoted in the papers is Dawn Yeo, though she calls herself Dawn Yang on her blog. Whatever lah.
Added: The outcry over her surname is silly. I’m Tew in Hokkien, Zhao in Mandarin. As far as I know, Singaporean Chinese use the Mandarin versions of surnames instead of dialects like Malaysian Chinese. Why not spend more time and effort arguing if conforming to media and advertising’s version of beauty from a lack of self esteem is beneficial or not, healthy or not?
Talent agency snaps up Singapore’s ‘hottest blogging babe’ to groom for stardom
SINGAPORE’S most famous celebrity bloggers have done much to attract notice.
By Jeanmarie Tan
10 November 2005SINGAPORE’S most famous celebrity bloggers have done much to attract notice.
Some post semi-nude pictures of themselves online.
Others pen socio-political commentary.
Yet others indulge in controversial musings on loos for the handicapped.
All blogger babe Dawn Yeo – better known as clapbangkiss – needs to do is upload drop-dead gorgeous photographs of herself and the eyeballs follow.
She is currently No 1 on hottestblogger.com – an online ‘beauty pageant’ which ranks local female bloggers according to looks – and her year-old website www.xanga.com/clapbangkiss has registered over 200,000 hits.
She is also possibly the first Singaporean blogger to score an artiste management contract.
Tinsel Management, which handles stars such as Utt and Denise Keller (see other report), has just signed her up.
Within the next year, it plans to groom her for acting, singing and advertising opportunities in Taiwan, Hong Kong and China.
Judging by the pictures, this girl is a knockout.
With her manga-heroine eyes and sweetie-pie sex appeal, Dawn – whose grandparents have Thai and Dutch blood – is a pan-Asian hybrid in the style of Fiona Xie and Vivian Hsu.
In person, the 21-year-old student is sweet, shy and understandably reserved for her first-ever media interview.
Yes, her long eyelashes and hazel peepers are fake, but at least she doesn’t have a fake ang moh accent.
She seems self-deprecating and even nonchalant about her stunning looks (’I'm flattered when people compliment me, but I don’t want to be known as a ‘hot blogger’ ‘).
Yet, the 1.66m-tall, 47kg girl turned surprisingly overly-critical of some less-than-flattering shots taken by our photographer and pleaded with us not to publish them.
But don’t hate her because she’s beautiful.
Local blogger Wendy Cheng aka xiaxue told The New Paper huffily: ‘She’s not a real blogger. She’s just a pretty girl who happens to have a blog.’
While Benjamin Lee aka Mr Miyagi has ‘no impression’ of Dawn’s blog, he has certainly heard of her cyber reputation as a beauty.
When Ms Melissa Lam, director of Tinsel Management, visited Dawn’s blog for the first time after countless recommendations, ‘the captivation factor became clear’.
‘She was an ordinary girl with an extraordinary face,’ said Ms Lam, who believes that the next wave of stars will come from the Internet.
‘She has that girl-next-door quality that the Taiwanese will like. Although she’s still a bit of an introvert, the blog is a way to see another side of her that’s not that sweet!’
But Ms Lam added that ‘a lot of honing and polishing’ is needed.
Dawn will get intensive singing, dancing, Mandarin and even Japanese lessons till she becomes ‘idol drama material’ and a ‘well-rounded artiste’.
Ms Lam said: ‘We can only support her with the resources to groom her for the industry. Whether or not she will make it to the top will depend on her own hard work and, of course, the right timing.’
Dawn herself is a mixture of nerves, excitement and eagerness as she attempts to break into the entertainment industry.
She said: ‘Every kid has dreamt of becoming a singer or actor and it was a fantasy I never thought of pursuing. But since the opportunity has presented itself, I might as well give it my best.’
BOYFRIEND
Dawn admitted to having a Singaporean boyfriend – until Ms Lam jumped in and advised her to keep a ’single status’ for the sake of her career.
She also seems well-prepared for the criticism that comes with the territory.
Her good looks have inspired much jealousy.
‘In school, someone started weird rumours about how I got into a catfight with another girl. People also accuse me of having plastic surgery, but what can I do?’ she shrugged helplessly.
Pictures of her clubbing with celeb pals such as Fiona Xie and Alex Polstra on her blog have led to Dawn being labelled a ‘laidback airhead’ who leads a ‘dazzling decadent lifestyle’.
But Dawn was a straight-A student who attended Singapore Chinese Girls’ School and Raffles Junior College.
She spent a year at the Singapore Management University (SMU) but left for the US on a scholarship to study business and communications at the University Of Southern California.
She has also been called a ‘rich spoilt brat’ because she writes about driving an SLK Mercedes – but in the US, it is ‘really cheap at US$15,000′.
Dawn revealed that she is ‘well-to-do but not loaded’, and that her family – comprising her retiree dad, HR manager mum and 16-year-old younger sis – lives in a semi-detached house in Bukit Timah.
She said in her calm, soft voice: ‘I guess when you get more known, you will always get haters.’
Which is why Dawn avoids turning her blog into a ’social-political commentary’ or shooting her mouth off on controversial issues – although she feels the handicap toilet debacle surrounding Wendy has been ‘blown out of proportion’.
She said: ‘If I need to express my opinions, I usually post my comments on other people’s blogs.
‘My blog is for my own personal enjoyment, for my friends and family. I never blogged for an audience.’
That will change next month when Dawn’s supporters can look forward to her online journal, which will chronicle her journey to becoming a star.
Blogger Benjamin frowns on such a ‘passe’ publicity gimmick as it has been ‘done to death with so many reality TV programmes’.
But Sandra Ng aka Sandralicious has voiced her support of Dawn, adding: ‘It’s a cool idea. People will be fascinated by its novelty. It’ll feel a bit more personal, bring her closer to the public.’
Izzy aka Sarong Party Girl also feels that the diary will succeed provided it is well-written and easy to identify with.
‘Everyone loves a Cinderella story. And even the ‘zero to zero’ plot works in modern culture, especially if she can turn a failed career into a touching story of burnt hope and how it is so difficult to be an artiste in Singapore. I’m sure people would buy that.’
Update: oO check this out too. Not sure if it’s the same person. How many Dawn Yeos who get scholarships are there in Singapore?

hot chicks pisses me off MAJORLY.
98573927209^infinity% RAGE.
i swear i predicted FA’s comment prior to reading it.
wah. like that i’m also not a blogger. i’m just a writer who happens to have a blog.
but when you read her version of the story, its pretty funny though.
ANYWAY, dawn looks like she fell out of a japanese anime/manga. eheh.
Fireangel – You p*ssed off majorly at yourself????
(and don’t pretend you don’t have half a dozen guys tell you that you are hot everyday! I know you do!!!)
Anywat, getting back to Suanie’s comment, I think you are right that she should be able to work her own way after the publicity machine has died dwown, I always remind ppl that the Beatles started as ‘POP STARS’ with a nice clean image before they really got stuck into new and imaginative musical works.
(Though Paul MacCartney seems to have reverted in later years … well, everyone caught up and he just seemed to get stuck in POP as Pop changed it’s spots and became more like him … while George and John at least still had some experimenting to do).
I can’t help but laugh at the comment Minishorts stuck here from Wendy. rofl
hey, at least we are ’something else’ who happens to have a blog, as opposed to being a REAL blogger who happens to have… er… nothing else…
bwahahahhahaha BWAHAHAHHAHAHAH BWAHHAHHAHAHA
*dies laughing*
Holy shit, THAT explains the sudden flood of hits I’m getting from google searches of Dawn Yang.
Unfortunately, I think she looks a bit… unnatural. I prefer “organic” (flawed but natural) features.
she looks like a manga character lah, like she popeed out of love hina like that … I LOVE THOSE EYES… damn big… wah ha .
suanie u chao lesbian!
(just kidding)
At least for the most part, Dawn look so much more adorable than that Xiaxue
She is pretyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy…
Her eyes can kill me softly.
she is soooo pretty…. nice!
Maybe someone should go e-mail Kimage to go sponsor her instead.
Lalalalalalalala
FA: I bet you love me. Right?
apparently she had plastic surgery done:
http://gssq.blogspot.com/2005/11/blogging-her-way-to-instant-fame-her.html
the effect is nice though. i’d always wondered about her nose. a bit too unnatural.
looking at her old pics, not ugly oso mah, quite sweet actually. why need surgery?? haiz.
my mom just told me to go get a nose job …. double haiz ….
she is hot! very pretty. and i agree that she is 1000X better looking than Xia Suwei.
she’s awfully pretty. :]
but i dont know.. alot of rumous have been going round.. check this site

Awesome!
it is a long way from being discovered til stardom so its a lot of hard work and publicity ahead. for now her exposure has been great so it’s good for her that everyone are curious to know who she is.
more rumours here
I want to be lesbian now. Dawn is hot. Get me the number of her plastic surgeon, and some cash would help too. Hahaha.
the girl whom dawn and her frds attacked on her tread sometime ago saying that arissa copied her face.but actually it’s the other way round.
http://www.friendster.com/useropen.php?uid=1738992
fa, u jealous shucker.. hohoho
yeah.. dawn’s smoking hot
she is hot…
http://www.starcrash.blogspot.com/
dawn yeo old blog, notice y all the pixs are gone?DOH!LOL
ok, now back to MY secret plans for world domination….
well… she obviously had a nose job done.
Even before i saw her old pictures, i already can tell. its so damm obvious. Nobody in singapore will have angelina jolie’s nose without going for plastic surgery.
dawn and her friends never said that arissa copied dawn’s face i think. it’s obvious who had the surgery and took whose picture to the surgeon to replicate:
http://www.swizzledrizzle.blogspot.com
the real story is that before this dawn sensed that such an expose might happen if she got into show business so she created a kind of fake hooha by making it seem like other pretty bloggers had plastic surgery accusations as well. arissa was not the only one. a few other pretty bloggers also got such accusations that were obviously invalid as they don’t look like they have plastic surgery. and it is such a coincidence these happened around the same time just before the expose.
my friend told me the whole story that went on and i find dawn very cunning.
that is a story cooked up by arissa (zhenshan) and her friends because after that ppl started comparing the both of them and flamers started talking kok about them both so zhenshan obviously wasn’t too happy n started to point fingers at dawn. I can bet my life on it that dawn is the sweetest person who’s wont do any of that sort and she herself was very upset that zhenshan was accusing her. And just which are the other pretty bloggers you mentioned? If im not wrong this is the only incident.
Pls dont make up stories to frame her esp when u don’t have proof. I wont be surprised if you were the same one going around pretending to be dawn’s “friends” and commenting n causing more shit for her.
Arissa isn’t that sort of person to cook up such stories. And besides, she doesn’t even want anything to do with Dawn. Please. your “n” and “ppl” and other shortforms are making it obvious. All the same in all those related comments.
And maybe you, Dawn you are “Li”? Just as how you were you “friends” on the casey blog? =) i SAW all those comments on that blog. Dawn, tsk tsk! You practically DRAGGED Arissa into it. Poor Arissa.
You are obviously also Dawn (or one of her “friends”) if not, how would you know for sure that Arissa “cooked up the story” or that Dawn is “the sweetest person” and was “upset that zhenshan was accusing her”? How come I didn’t get this from other blogs?
Stop defending yourself and pulling others into it while doing so.
Btw, your plastic perfected face makes me sick.
i dont think dawn yang or her friends are in any position now to accuse other people, accusing arissa of accusing her etc. look at what the expose has shown about dawn’s character. dawn is the sweetest person? i dont think so, if she could be so conniving, scheming with all her lies about her plastic surgery and other stuffs.
I really don’t give a shit whether or not she had plastic surgery or she looks like a friend or a friend looks like her, frankly all this nitpicking bores the shit out of me.
What I do not like is the same person attempting to comment as two different people. It’s my blog, I have all your IPs, I know who is who. Deal with it.
dawn, after you went and got your plastic surgery, (woooo what transformation!), you ended up looking like zhenshan. and then followed her poses, party with fiona xie, pull her into this PS businness with you, god knows what else? no wonder she’s pissed off! who would be happy with a stupid plastic clone of theirs walking around? and fyi, zhenshan has not been ‘cooking up stories’ about you. she is not as cunning or lowclass as you. in fact she deleted the messages i left on her message board that i wrote about you. if i were her, id have left them there for all to see. all the observations are made by other people like me. we have eyes to see. all the exposes surrounding you now does not help your credibility for putting up a defence at all.
dawn is hot, and seems like a nice girl, yes.. but dont you think that its a bit too much that she’s going to be a star. i mean, i’m not sure if all the rumors going around is true, but it seems like she’s shameful of coming from a chinese heritage that she has to go get surgeries to look more mat salleh.
i dont think that MTV or whoever are going to actually make money out of this girl who doesnt have a natural beauty..
We are talking bout asia now. Since we are not so open minded bout surgery like the mat salleh’s, dawn getting surgery wont get her anywhere
Whether Dawn went 4 plastic surgery ant, why muz everyone gossip here and there? Its her own life man!!!!!!!!! Anyway, she’s 1 babe that kills!
yep, now shes fakefully pretty, wait till she reaches E. taylor’s age….
natural beauty anyone?
‘fakefully pretty’ is the best line I’ve heard to describe this dawn yang phenomenon. =D
nature will take its course. are the children of pretty plastic people going to pop into the world already plasticked?
of course not. they won’t pass on fake looks, so will they eschew family photos, or venturing in public when their kids are a little older? heavens knows if the kids aren’t as gorgeous as the parents the dreadful secret of having had facial work will be all too clear.
it’s not like young children will be feasible candidates for plastic surgery.
I prefer the real thing, thank you.
Suanie:
ah well… a 10 yr old kid with high allowance and low complex… you never know…
Sure’s a beauty.
But not all beauties and hunks are cut out to be actors and actresses.
Just visiting your blog passing by from scopetg.blogspot.com.
Real person, I’m not a computer spam program.
Suanie:
glad to know
I don’t really follow up her stuff anymore; I don’t have cable and maybe that’s why (if she’s on some music show)
No matter. Never heard of her same here.
Maybe I should be a spam machine.
