remembering 911

Four years ago today I was fast relishing a new found taste for cold sweet beer. Seated across me in the seedy pub near our old office were a couple of colleagues, each holding a glass of watered-down beer not unknown to happy hours revelers. Their eyes were fixed at the television in the pub, watching in fascinated horror at the replays of September 11.

I watched along, pretending to understand the impact of such an action upon the free land of America. Actually at that time I couldn’t really give a shite; I didn’t know that the Twin Towers existed in the first place nor the role of the Pentagon in the US. Back then, I didn’t even know how to drive to Midvalley.

Now I know a bit more things, I understand a little better. Almost 3,000 killed and many more injured in an in-your-face series of coordinated attacks, a most devastating state of affairs that would prove costly later on. Heroes were born, names remembered, spirit and shields up.

Never forget.

Who remembers October 25, December 1989 or October 2001?

Take heart – you can’t really choose your country’s foreign policies.
