Keith Green did a similar thing in the seventies releasing one of his albums for “what ever you can afford”, which meant that people sometimes didn’t pay anything for it.
I think it was his album ‘No Compromise’
but might have been a different one.
Anyway, the album ended up being a best seller.

Actually there is a company that actually does the same thing. They go a step further and you can listen to all their tunes online, no 5 second preview but the whole song. The songs are quite nice too.
