purleasee…..

I wonder sometimes if it is worthwhile to let the whole world know of your stand on certain issues, at the risk of sounding immature, intolerant, inept, ineverything?

To make sweeping remarks such as ‘If you think you are gay or lesbian, you are not a mistake, nor were you born this way. It is obvious that there is something wrong with you mentally. Seek treatment immediately!’ does not really endear you to a lot of people, something which you may find totally against your advantage when you snap out of happy teenage-hood and enter the real world.

Not because homosexuality is encouraged in many societies, but the naivety in offhandedly proclaiming that it is solely associated with mental and emotional disturbances sorely shows someone’s lack of understanding on the causes, choices, lifestyle, background etc.

Sometimes between black and white, there are many different shades of grey. It would be preferable to actually go do some research or at least read up on homosexuality before arming yourself with armour and guns and calling for battle, that is publishing it on your blog to be read by random Internet-savvy people.

Being young is not an excuse. It is not even a matter of standing on your ground. I would say that it is more of being young, ignorant and complacent in his or her own shielded bubbly world that the desire to learn or understand some thing (and a lot of things) better cease to exist. Judging from the defensive responses, I am proven right.

This rant was brought on by a blog post somewhere else. She has deleted her blog, so no point in linking her.

OMG! As I’m a mentally and emotionally disturbed person … does that mean I am GAY!

    When did that happen????

Gees, I could have gone through life chasing women. Now that person has put me on the right track to what I should be chasing! Think of how more emotionally disturbed I would have become if I didn’t find out. :-)

I still do not know who you are talking about. And what angel? It cannot be FireAngel. I will vouch for her liberal attitude and tolerance. Okay, maybe not tolerance, just liberal attitude.

Hmmm…. I have a dirty mind, but never thought of it as being a mental problem.

Being gay, I’ve heard a lot of stupid things in the past. Most recently, someone asked me in my blog (anonymously summore) if I’m not ’scared’ because ‘homosexuality causes AIDS’. Despite the dumb question, he/she was polite, so I just gave a patronising answer instead of ripping him/her a new one.

At the end of the day, not worth it lah. For every idiot like that, I’ve met a ton of nice people for whom my sexuality isn’t even an issue.

True lah. I get knocked all the time by my friends if I dislike something and can’t provide a good enough reason to dislike it. It’s just a wee irresponsible, me thinks.

And how many Dimensions are there?

Do you prefer the 10 Dimension String theory … or the 26 dimension string theory?

And is there really only one person in the world who believes in Solipsism?

    Suanie,

I dislike generalising, but seriously, how many straight people would actually look up the causes of homosexuality?

They just repeat and follow what they heard from media, friends, parents, religion. Can’t blame them entirely; our society is brought up not to ask questions and not to do our own thinking.

P/S Jay honey, your dirty mind is your attraction, not a mental problem. ;P

  18. FireAngel, 21. August 2005, 19:35

Ahem. If Suanie had something to bitch about me - she would bitch it to MY FACE like a man with big balls. :P

  19. suanie, 23. August 2005, 4:05

True that. Which makes it all more the pity. I’m not going to be the heroine but someone’s got to jolt their minds
