for he was a jolly good fellow

Got news last week that my favourite mamak stall operator, Misai of SS2 had passed away. Texted Bon Jovi and he called me back to confirm the news. Apparently it was two Saturdays ago when Misai complained of chest pains. His family wanted to send him to the hospital, but he refused, preferring to wait for it to blow over. Come morning, it was clear that the pain wasn’t going anywhere. Unfortunately his heart failed him en route to the hospital.

Misai was an integral part of my living-in-PJ experience. I felt sorry that he wouldn’t be able to see his youngest son get married, a wish he’d been harbouring since a couple of years ago. Even found a bride for him and everything. Well, I’ll miss him, along with his “HELLO KAWAN!”, “Mana itu mat salleh? Dah lama tak datang worr…” and “Sepuluh sen/ Dua puluh sen tak payah kira lah, kita kawan, tak kira punya.” I’ll miss him.

  1. Reading this post make me feel so sad… i share the same feeling.
been there few times even yesterday after Misai no longer around, the usual atmosphere no longer same.

Still remember how happy he was when we buy him “bangkali roti” from Penang.

    R.I.P. Misai.

  2. yeah, R.I.P. Misai, when I got the text from Galvin I was hoping he was playing a joke. But it wasn’t the first day of April, haih

Yah damn miss misai, he was best – always so jolly and happy to see us.

  6. I’m not trying to make a fool here although i dunno who is Misai…

I read the 1st word as “Good” instead of “Got”..i wonder why suani suddenly so jahat even ppl pass away…

Guess when someone u know pass away suddenly u will definitely felt sad as well..

Recently, there’s an indian kedai runcit boss acting very arogant and lcly… Last week, he pass away due to an accident in India during year end vacation. My thought is no matter how angry u are towards someone, once he pass away, u will regret nvr talk to him more when he’s alive or nvr quarrel kau kau when he’s alive too.. 🙂

  7. I felt so sad and shocked too when I heard the news from Galvin…
Misai such a nice guy who always happy to chit-chat and joking with his customers. I used to hangout there frequently last time when I was staying at PJ…

    I still remember…

    – his plan for his youngest son’s wedding (Unfortunately, he failed to achieve it… )
    – his kindest “discount” for us… (I know it’s only 10 or 20cents discount but still makes us happy)
    – he asked to tapao him some bangkali roti all away from Penang… (I felt so bad that I didn’t buy him any of it when he asking for…)

    Now, I missed Misai…
    R.I.P. Misai…. 🙁

  8. Whenever Misai sees us there, he will always smile, curling his misai (ya, long one) and said “wah, sudah lama tak mari… mai, mai, duduk… okay minum apa?!”
    We will miss u Misai! R.I.P Misai… 🙁
